SAG-AFTRA President Expels Meghan from Union for Failing to Support Strike
In a show of solidarity with their fellow striking Screen Actors Guild and American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) coworkers, several A-list celebrities have shown their support by joining picket lines.
Notable names like Kevin Bacon have humbly carried picket signs and lent moral support.
However, one actress seems to be missing from the scene – Meghan Markle.
Surprisingly, Meghan was once a proud member of the SAG-AFTRA union, having started her acting career on the ABC soap opera General Hospital while her father worked as a lighting director.
Despite her humble beginnings, Meghan has remained silent on the ongoing strike, leaving many questioning her loyalty to her fellow actors.
During her highly publicized interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2021, Meghan expressed her fondness for being part of the union but mentioned making sacrifices for the monarchy she later criticized.
Trending:
Previously, SAG-AFTRA had tweeted their support for Meghan during her interview with Oprah.
However, Meghan has not reciprocated the same support for her fellow actors during the strike.
Speculations suggest that her silence may be due to a conflict of interest with her £78 million contract with Netflix, a major streaming giant that has refused to cooperate with the striking actors and writers.
According to a celebrity gossip website, SAG-AFTRA President Fran Drescher is displeased with Meghan's lack of support and has taken the drastic step of expelling her from the union.
While actors like Margot Robbie, Cillian Murphy, and Matt Damon have spoken out in favor of the strike, Meghan's silence has not gone unnoticed.
In contrast, Netflix has publicly supported Prince Harry and Meghan, dispelling rumors of any rift between them when their Spotify deal ended.
The streaming giant emphasized the value they place on their partnership with Archival Productions, indicating that their journey together is far from over.
Recently, a SAG-AFTRA union rally took place in New York, drawing support from prominent figures such as Bryan Cranston, Jessica Chastain, Brendan Fraser, and F. Murray Abraham, among others.
The rally aimed to address the ongoing strike, which began two weeks prior.
Stars like Christian Slater, Wendell Pierce, Christine Baranski, Rachel Zegler, Chloe Grace Moretz, and Corey Stoll also joined the gathering in Times Square.
The event, known as the Rock of the City for a Fair Contract rally, saw the participation of Vanessa Williams, Matt Bomer, Michael Shannon, Lauren Ambrose, Bellamy Young, Melissa Joan Hart, Hill Harper, and Arian Moyad, all showing their support for the strike.
During the rally, Bryan Cranston, a six-time Emmy Award winner, delivered a message directly to Disney's CEO, Robert Iger.
Meanwhile, Netflix faced criticism for advertising an AI product manager position amidst the ongoing strike.
Financial pressures reportedly affect Prince Harry and Meghan's lifestyle in California.
Despite these setbacks, Meghan has chosen to remain silent regarding the strike, leaving many curious about her stance on the matter.
Given Meghan's previous affiliation with SAG-AFTRA and her acknowledgment of the protection it provided, her silence has raised eyebrows among industry insiders.
As the strike revolves around pay issues and the use of artificial intelligence in the entertainment industry, Meghan's lack of support has become a topic of discussion.
While other actors stand united in their fight for fair contracts, Meghan's silence has led to questions about her commitment to her fellow actors and the union she was once a part of.
