GOP Lawmaker Calls for Stripping Sussex Titles Over Interference in US Politics
A Republican congressman has called for Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, and Prince Harry to be stripped of their royal titles after the former actress advocated for paid family leave in the United States.
Representative Jason Smith from Missouri released a statement on Friday, slamming Meghan's latest interference in US politics and reigniting questions as to why the royal family has not officially stripped the couple of their titles.
The letter was written on Sussex-headed paper and signed by Meghan with her Duchess title.
Lisa McLean, another GOP lawmaker, criticized Meghan, stating that she is out of touch with the American people and should stick to acting instead of playing politics.
McLean added that wealthy celebrities pushing their liberal agendas on the American people is the last thing the country needs right now.
Harry and Meghan retained their Sussex titles after quitting royal duties but agreed to stop using their HRH styles.

Under the couple's agreement with the Queen, they are still permitted to use their Duke and Duchess of Sussex titles.
In an open letter to Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer, Meghan made a push for paid leave, stating that she was speaking out as an engaged citizen and a parent.
She recalled her childhood in California, where eating at the $4.99 salad bar at Sizzler was a luxury that her parents worked hard to afford.
Meghan wrote, “No family should have to choose between earning a living and having the freedom to take care of their child, or a loved one, or themselves, as we would see with a comprehensive paid leave plan.”
Representative Smith criticized Meghan for her restaurant reference and support of paid leave, calling her attempts at appealing to working-class families laughable.
He stated that her comments make it clear that the passage of this massive tax and spend bill is aimed more at helping global elites get huge tax breaks than helping the working families she claims to have dined with.
This is not the first time that Smith has criticized Meghan and Harry.
In a letter to British Ambassador to the US Karen Pearce last year, he accused the couple of using foreign titles to campaign against President Trump and interfere with the election.
Meanwhile, a fan of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry has been blasted for social media posts shared while Queen Elizabeth II spent a night in the hospital.
Buckingham Palace issued a statement on Thursday evening, revealing that the monarch visited the hospital.
The Queen attended Central London's Private King Edward VII's hospital on Wednesday afternoon and returned to Windsor Castle at lunchtime on Thursday.
A palace source confirmed that Her Majesty was in good spirits following preliminary investigations during her hospital visit, which was not related to coronavirus.
She was only admitted for practical reasons and continued to undertake light duties on Thursday afternoon.
Many royal fans took to social media to extend well wishes for the Queen and wish her a speedy recovery.
However, the Daily Mail's royal commentator Richard Eden blasted fans of the Sussexes for posts they shared while the sovereign spent a night in the hospital.
Eden shared screenshots of tweets from one fan's account, stating that there are “disgusting posts about the Queen from Harry and Meghan fans.”
The screenshot shows two tweets, one of which reads, “BRBM shopping for coffins for the Queen” alongside a meme of someone walking quickly into the distance.
Many other users blasted the account for being disgraceful and disgusting, with keynote speaker and commentator Rowleen Marks tweeting that the posts were “disgraceful” and questioning whether they had been reported to the authorities.
In conclusion, Meghan's advocacy for paid family leave has sparked controversy and criticism from GOP lawmakers, with Representative Smith calling for the Duchess and Prince Harry to be stripped of their royal titles.
Meanwhile, social media posts from fans of the couple have been criticized for their disrespect towards Queen Elizabeth II while she was in the hospital.
