Kate Middleton’s Special Relationship with the Queen: Direct Line and Video Calls

The Duchess of Cambridge, , has built a very strong relationship with her grandmother-in-law, II, since she married into the Royal Family in 2011.

The pair regularly speak on the phone, with the Cambridge Kids being a regular topic of conversation, according to Royal author Duncan Larcombe.

Larcombe also claimed that the Duchess has a direct line to the Queen, which means she can call Her Majesty without being put on hold by aides and palace staff.

Catherine uses this privilege to ask the Queen for advice or to keep her updated on the three little Cambridges, , , and .

Kate has reportedly perfected the balance of treating her grandmother-in-law as both head of the family and the great-grandmother to her children.

She calls the Queen regularly to check how she's getting on during the lockdown.

According to Duncan, Catherine was the one who taught the 94-year-old monarch how to use video calls so she could keep in touch with the rest of the family.

Speaking to OK!

magazine, Duncan says Kate has her own direct line to speak to the Queen and she calls her to check on her and give her updates on the children.

She always leans on her for advice.

Kate strikes that balance between bowing to her as head of the royal family in public, but being able to check in with her as the great-grandmother to her children, as they have not been able to see each other regularly for months.

Phone calls and video messages have become vital for the royals, just like everyone else.

Duncan says it's believed Kate was the one to teach the Queen how to use Zoom, and that's been lovely so she can see her great-grandkids and stay connected.

The royal author also suggested the Queen is working on a major surprise for Catherine and 's 10-year wedding anniversary in April, making a decade since Catherine finally joined the royal family.

It's highly likely she'll be planning a special secret something to honor Kate's 10 years in the royal family, something she can do to mark it.

This comes after news the Queen has allowed William and Catherine to use Sandringham House as their office during the third national lockdown.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are spending lockdown at their home at Anmer Hall, a short distance from the Queen's beloved home in Norfolk.

This concession is particularly significant for the importance Sandringham House has in the Queen's personal history.

Her father, King George VI, died there on February 6, 1952.

The Queen traditionally stays in Norfolk until the anniversary of the death of her beloved father to honor his memory before returning to London.

This year, owing to the pandemic, the Queen and Prince Philip remained at Windsor Castle, where they have been self-isolating for the most part of 2020.
