Kate Wins Praise for Sustainable Fashion Choices at Earthshot Prize Awards, While Meghan Markle’s Outfits are Criticized
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge recently attended the Earthshot Prize Awards ceremony, which recognizes sustainable innovations.
The couple asked guests to consider the environment when choosing their outfit, and they led by example with their own wardrobe choices.
Prince William wore a dark green velvet blazer he previously sported for a charity gala in 2019 along with 20-year-old trousers.
Kate, on the other hand, opted for a lilac Alexander McQueen gown dating from 2011.
Her ensemble has been praised by fashion experts for showing both sensitivity and common sense.
Fashion PR and former etiquette consultant Charlotte Ellis commented that Kate's recycled Grecian-style gown was in tune with the theme of sustainability of the event.

She also praised the Duchess for often wearing pieces she has owned since before having three children, including a £16 Zara dress that she had previously showcased in Bradford last year.
Ms Ellis believes that being seen re-wearing items is a feat that helps Kate gain the respect of royal watchers.
In contrast, Ms Ellis claims that Meghan Markle's choice of outfits can show a lack of understanding and can appear out of place for the occasion she's attending.
Ms Ellis specifically criticized Markle for wearing eye-wateringly expensive clothes to charity visits of schools and other places, where most of the children are on free school meals.
She highlighted that there is an obvious contrast between both of the Duchesses when it comes to their clothing choice and striking the right note.
Express reports that a study from clothing brand Pretty Little Thing found that, of the 25,000 online reactions to Meghan's NYC wardrobe, only 34% of it was loving.
The biggest online response was laughing at 51% of the online reaction, while others included angry at 12%, wow at 2%, and 1% for sad.
Ms Ellis concluded that Kate knows how to be glamorous when the occasion requires, such as the Bond premiere, without being ostentatious.
This is in contrast to Meghan Markle's ostentatious choice of outfits, which Ms Ellis claims is more suited to the Hollywood scene than to charity visits.
This criticism comes after Harry and Meghan were accused of flaunting their lavish lifestyle during their four-day trip.
One tabloid's source more specifically attacked Markle for wearing a $7,500 designer outfit and $387,000 worth of jewellery.
Prince Harry and Markle also attended an event that was aimed at promoting the largest ever climate protection bill in the country.
Then hours after speaking at the concert, they flew back to their $14 million California mansion on a private jet, something they do repeatedly.
The same source said that Harry and Meghan should be ashamed of themselves.
It seems that Kate's fashion choices have gained her respect from the public, while Meghan's outfits are criticized for being extravagant and out of touch with the occasion.
The Earthshot Prize Awards were an opportunity for guests to show their support for sustainability, and Kate's choice to recycle her outfits was a perfect fit for the theme of the event.
It remains to be seen whether Meghan will follow Kate's lead and make more sustainable fashion choices in the future.
