Megan Markle’s Children’s Book “The Bench” Criticized by Australian TV Host as Torturous Poetry

Australian news host Rowan Dean has taken a swipe at Megan Markle over the poetry in her new children's book, The Bench.

Speaking on a colleague's show, Mr Dean hit out at a recent video of the Duchess of Sussex reading her poem, branding the footage as garbage and insisting it was torture to listen to the poem.

He added the video should come with a trigger warning due to how bad it is.

Mr Dean went on to criticize the quality of Megan's work in The Bench.

He said, “None of her poetry rhymes, none of it scans, if it doesn't fit she just drops a syllable and puts an apostrophe instead.

None of it makes any sense, it is boring as bat droppings.

It is so bad and it is worse than one of those cat videos that sticks in your head.”

The video, for the Brightly Storytime channel, features Megan reading from her own children's book, The Bench, which the Duchess published earlier this year.

In the video, Megan explained that she wrote the book as a poem for her husband and their son Archie and then turned it into a book so others could enjoy it too.

Despite the criticism, fans have praised the Duchess for ensuring her books go to a children's charity.

When the Sussexes signed a book deal with Penguin Random House for several projects, Megan made sure that the children's book she wanted to publish would include a humanitarian operation.

Reportedly, 2,000 copies of the book were sent for free to a list of schools and libraries in the US.

One institution in Los Angeles even received one copy per child they care for.

Since 1919, the Assistance League of LA has been improving the quality of the lives of at-risk children and families.

On Tuesday, the organization thanked Megan Markle for her donation via social media.

They posted pictures of the kids showing off their brand new books and thanked the Duchess of Sussex.

This isn't the only time in recent weeks that Megan has given a reading for her book.

In September, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex headed to a school in Harlem so that Megan could share her book with a group of eager second graders.

However, the criticism of her book hasn't stopped there.

Australian TV hosts were heard laughing in the background when part of the video was featured on Australia's Today show.

Despite this, newsreader Alex Cullen defended the book, saying, “It's a lovely story.”

Despite the mixed reactions, Megan has remained positive about her book, saying, “I hope you enjoyed The Bench, I loved being able to share it with you.

And now I hope you're able to go and find your own special bench, or chair, or little quiet nook.
