Meghan Markle Denied the Spencer Tiara for Royal Wedding
Meghan Markle, the former actress and now Duchess of Sussex, was not allowed to wear the famed Spencer tiara when she married Prince Harry.
This decision was made because Meghan was marrying into the royal family, not the Spencer family.
Although Harry's late mother, Diana Princess of Wales, was born a Spencer, neither of her sons carry their mother's surname.
They are Royals or Windsors.
Acclaimed author and journalist Tom Bower wrote in his book Revenge that the Spencers, William and his wife Catherine, were left baffled by Harry's claim that his then-girlfriend embodied his late mother.
A tweet from a Meg's a tear Robin Lin King brought attention to a tweet from Sussex squaddie Myra, believed to be Megan herself, in which she claimed that the Spencers offered Meghan the Spencer tiara and a wedding veil was designed around it.

However, it is unclear if this is true.
According to Harry's memoir, Spare, the Spencer tiara was offered to Meghan by his mother's family.
The edges of the veil were also designed around the scalloped edges of the Spencer tiara.
The Daily Mail reported on this story, but it is unclear if it is accurate.
It is important to note that the Spencer tiara is not owned by Diana's family.
It is an heirloom handed down throughout the generations of Spencer women.
For example, both of her sisters, Baroness Jane Fellows and Lady Sarah McCorkdale, wore the tiara when they got married.
Charles Spencer, Diana's brother, did not allow Meghan to wear the tiara.
Harry thought his uncles and aunts approved of his then-fiancé being like their late sister.
However, according to Tom Bower's book, they felt the opposite of what the nephew thought.
We do not believe that Meghan was ever offered the Spencer tiara.
Furthermore, the part of the story where Harry claims that the Queen begged Markle to wear one of the royal tiaras is total nonsense.
Her late majesty would not beg anyone.
That is not her style.
Although the former Princess of Wales never met the Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry hoped the rest of his family on his mother's side would spot similarities between the two women.
But he was disappointed when they didn't.
Mr. Bower discussed Prince Harry's introduction of Meghan to Baroness Jane Fellows and Lady Sarah McCorkdale, Diana's two sisters, and the late princess's friend Julia Samuel.
He claimed Harry assumed that Diana's family and friends would see a similarity between Diana and his fiancé.
They shared the same problems.
He was disappointed no one agreed that his vulnerable mother had anything in common with his girlfriend.
More discomforting for him was that they thought Meghan wouldn't fit in with the royal family.
Mr. Bower then claimed that Diana's brother Charles Spencer was urged to voice the siblings' unease by Prince William.
This inspired a bitter reaction from the Duke of Sussex, according to Mr. Bower.
Mr. Bower continued that the runny's was voiced by Charles Spencer, Diana's brother, at William's request.
Spencer weighed in three times.
Married Spencer cautioned his nephew to reconsider his haste towards marriage.
His advice provoked a bitter reaction.
