Meghan Markle Gave Birth to Baby Archie at Private London Hospital, Buckingham Palace Confirms

The birthplace of baby Archie, the first child of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, has been confirmed by Buckingham Palace.

The Duchess of Sussex gave birth to Archie at the Portland Hospital in London, according to a royal source.

The couple had previously stated their desire to keep the details surrounding the birth private.

The birth certificate lists Meghan's occupation as “Princess of the United Kingdom,” although she has chosen not to use her other title, HRH Princess Henry of Wales.

The Portland Hospital is a prestigious private hospital favored by wealthy patients, with a normal delivery costing £6,100 ($7,800) and a Caesarean section costing £7,950 ($10,200).

While the details of Archie's birth were kept private, Harry and Meghan introduced him to the world just two days later, posing for pictures at Windsor Castle.

Meghan described her son as having “the sweetest temperament,” while Harry said becoming a parent was “amazing.”

Archie, who was born on May 6, is seventh in line to the throne, just behind his father.

However, the couple opted not to give him the title of Earl of Dumbarton, which he was entitled to as the heir to Prince Harry's Scottish Earldom.

Instead, they chose to name him Master Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, allowing him to have a more normal life.

According to Sunday Times Royal Correspondent Roy O'Nicker, Harry and Meghan did not want their son to have a title, stating that they wanted him to be “unencumbered by the restrictions that come with titles.”

This decision could have been part of their wider plan to step back from their roles as Royals, according to Joel Ittle, the managing editor of Majesty magazine.

The news of Archie's birth at a private hospital has sparked controversy, with some criticizing the couple for not using a National Health Service hospital.

However, the couple's decision to keep the details of the birth private is in line with their desire for more privacy and autonomy.

In response to the news, a spokeswoman for the Portland Hospital congratulated the Duke and Duchess of Sussex on the birth of their son, but stated that they could not provide any comment or information due to patient confidentiality.

Despite the controversy, Harry and Meghan are no doubt enjoying their new role as parents.

As Harry said, “We're just so thrilled to have our bundle of joy.

We're looking forward to spending some precious time with him as he slowly starts to grow up.”
