Meghan Markle’s Oprah Interview Dress Named Dress of the Year 2021

The fashion museum Bath has announced that 's dress, which she wore during her interview with earlier this year, has been named Dress of the Year 2021.

The announcement came as Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge's pictures and videos from her first engagement in Copenhagen emerged.

Markle's long, black triple silk georgette dress with deep front, lotus flower embroidery, and matching belt from Giorgio Armani's Spring/Summer 2022 Cruise collection is still available to buy in the US.

It's well-known that members of the royal family often use outfits to send a message through their choice of style, color, or motif.

Experts have speculated that Markle chose a dress with a lotus flower design due to the flower's symbolic association with rebirth, self-regeneration, and spiritual enlightenment, and its ability to flourish despite seemingly challenging conditions.

Ibrahim Kamara and Gareth Wrighton said, “In today's hyper-stylized pop culture, the dress of the year now has the potential to also be meme of the year, and we both latched upon Meghan and Harry's now iconic interview with Oprah as the definitive anti-establishment moment that will forever endure in the British collective consciousness.

Meghan's wrap dress by Armani, worn to showcase a divine pregnancy, framed the Duchess in black against the bountiful landscaping of Tyler Perry's Hollywood garden.

This look now, through sheer association with a viral television moment, is firmly ingrained in our pop culture psyche.”

Rosemary Harden, fashion museum manager, said, “This is a fabulous addition to the fashion museum collection.

There are moments in history that are all about the dress, and Meghan's interview with Oprah was just such an occasion.”

As if it was not enough to steal the limelight from Duchess Catherine's visit, pictures of with her husband and from their dinner together also surfaced online.

Many people think Markle has intentionally done this.

According to a branding expert, Meghan Markle's lack of appreciation for the monarchy's significance in British society was a key reason she failed to adjust to royal family life.

Professor Celia Ottens, a professor of marketing specializing in how the royal family brands itself, told that this gap in understanding the importance of the institution in Britain marked the difference between Meghan and Kate's success within the firm.

The author of Royal Fever said, “The UK is an extremely significant society.

And I don't think Meghan cared about that, not being British.

Think about the difference between Kate being British, and how she must understand that heritage.”

Professor Ottens echoed a similar sentiment, adding that these titles of princess or duchess do not hold the same cultural weight in the US.

“She said, ‘Americans don't care about these titles because they're not in our social structure.

We don't have the sort of reverence of these titles, we don't understand like, oh, right below that is this, and right above that is, that was always tied to the British court.'”

Recently, a British newspaper published comments from Paul Weller's daughter.

According to the publication, Dylan, 25, who is a fashion stylist, was asked whether she would like to style Meghan Markle.

She said not really, without giving any reason.
