Netflix Faces Boycott From Viewers Over Deal With Harry and Meghan

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Harry and Meghan, have come under fire from viewers after their multi-million dollar deal with Netflix.

The couple’s latest venture is an animated children’s series called Pearl, which Meghan is producing.

However, according to a recent poll conducted by the Express newspaper, 96.5% of the 4,078 respondents believe that Harry and Meghan are not doing enough to earn an estimated $1 million per week from Netflix.

Only 2.3% of respondents, or 94 people, believe that the royal couple deserves their generous Netflix contract, while 0.2%, or 50 people, were unsure.

One reader, Candy Cam, even left Netflix because of the deal with Harry and Meghan.

A royal expert has also claimed that the couple has a lot to prove following their $166 million deal with Netflix, which was announced almost a year ago.

While the Times had initially reported that the Sussexes would be making documentaries, docuseries, feature films, scripted shows, and children’s programming, there has been little movement on this front publicly.

Trending:

Despite the huge publicity coup that the signing of Harry and Meghan represented for Netflix, the streaming giant has yet to see much return on their estimated $133 million investment in the couple.

In fact, it seems that all they have received so far is essentially the world’s most expensive press release.

As a result, multiple viewers have called for a boycott of Netflix.

Some have even written to the company to express their opposition to paying such a high amount of money to people they believe have no talent.

One viewer, Flip, stated that they have no interest in either of them and would rather watch paint dry.

However, not all viewers are enraged by the couple’s financial circumstances and creative endeavors.

Some, like Mr.

Wonderful, simply don’t care.

The Duchess of Sussex reportedly began talks regarding the development of the children’s series back in 2018, two years before she and Harry decided to step back from their royal duties.

Pearl’s titular character, 12-year-old girl Belle, is based on Meghan as her younger self.

This is the second project the couple has announced since their mega deal with Netflix back in September 2020.

The first was a docu-series called Heart of Invictus, which focuses on the achievements of injured servicemen and women at the Invictus Games.

However, Variety’s chief media analyst Andrew Wallenstein has criticized the Invictus series, stating that it does not remotely sound like what their tabloid-driven audience wants.

He labeled it an exercise in their image rehabilitation, funded by Netflix.

Wallenstein believes that the value Harry and Meghan will bring to Netflix comes from making themselves available for interviews to publicize the content that bears their imprimatur.

If Netflix suddenly has to tighten their belts, he predicts that this deal will be one of the first to get second-guessed.

In conclusion, while Harry and Meghan’s Netflix deal may have initially seemed like a huge win for both parties, it appears that viewers are not convinced that the couple is doing enough to earn their high wage.

With calls for a boycott and criticism from media analysts, the future success of their creative endeavors remains to be seen.
