Netflix’s Harry and Meghan Documentary Trailer Causes Controversy
The upcoming documentary about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, produced by Netflix, has caused quite a stir.
The trailer for the documentary features a shot of photographers taking pictures of the couple, with Harry commenting on his need to protect his family.
However, it has now been revealed that the photo used in the trailer was actually taken at a Harry Potter premiere years before the couple even met.
The photo was taken at the London premiere of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2, in Trafalgar Square, London, in July 2011.
The photo shows rows of photographers clamoring for the best snap, but they were really pointing their cameras at the all-star cast of the final film in J.K. Rowling's Wizarding franchise.
The image is used in the Netflix trailer before Prince Harry says in a voiceover, “I had to do everything I could to protect my family.”
Trending:
Royal expert Ingrid Seward commented on the use of the photo, stating, “I don't imagine Harry would have realized, but Netflix have been careless here as it weakens Harry's comment about protecting his family.
This fake picture weakens his point.”
The photo is the first search result under paparazzi on leading stock image website Olamy.
The controversy doesn't end there.
Netflix has also been called out for possible copyright infringement for the photo of Catherine and William at the Commonwealth Service, and for bringing a photographer into Buckingham Palace without the Queen's permission.
The palace is understood to have no plans to engage with any claims made in the docuseries, which has been branded as a global event by Netflix.
The six-part series will reportedly make viewers come away with empathy for the LA-based couple.
It is set for release this week in what Netflix has described as a global event.
The constant attacks from the Sussexes have left the palace becoming weary, and insiders do not know of any further revelations to come.
The couple thought they would steal the limelight and attention away from William and Kate by releasing this trailer, and other things during the Earthshot Prize program.
However, this has resulted in causing distractions away from the issues of climate change and the winners of the Earthshot Prize.
The backlash after backlash comes after this trailer, not just because of this diversion of attention, but also due to the photos used.
The amount of photographers shown in the trailer isn't realistic for a photo shoot involving Meghan and her baby bump in an aisle-fitting dress grimacing at pensioners in an old folks' home.
The only time they would ever have gotten this attention was their wedding-slash-engagement, and even then, it was controlled.
Netflix refused to comment about the picture's use, but it seems that the streaming giant has more problems on its hands than it initially thought.
The documentary is set to be released soon, and it remains to be seen how it will be received by audiences worldwide.
In conclusion, the Harry and Meghan documentary trailer has caused controversy due to the use of a fake photo and possible copyright infringement.
