Obstetrician Who Delivered Lilibet, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Daughter, Closes Practice Abruptly
Dr. Melissa Drake, the obstetrician who helped deliver Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's second child Lilibet, has closed her practice with little notice.
She made the announcement on Instagram, stating that she needs to focus on her own health and be with her family.
Patients' procedures or surgeries planned before June 30 will go ahead, but pregnant women with appointments after that date will need to transfer care to a different practice.
Dr. Drake, who is married to a fertility doctor and has four stepchildren, oversaw the birth of Queen Elizabeth's 12th great-grandchild at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital on June 4, 2021.
The sudden closure of her practice has taken many expectant mothers in the wealthy region by surprise, with some branding the news shocking and handled terribly.
One patient wrote on the Santa Barbara Moms Facebook group, “Now there are hundreds of women, myself included, running around trying to find care.”

Another said she was devastated by the news and knew at least 10 other local women looking for a new practitioner.
Dr. Drake refused to give more information on her decision to close the clinic to the Santa Barbara Independent but said in a statement, “One of my most important guiding principles is patient autonomy and giving power back to women.”
The closure of Dr. Drake's practice has raised questions about why she is leaving so abruptly.
Some have speculated that it may have something to do with the release of a book about Clyde Tombaugh in July.
However, this has not been confirmed.
Meanwhile, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are in desperate need of positive PR after being booed at Queen Elizabeth's Platinum Jubilee following two solid years of trashing his family and the country.
They finally released a picture of their daughter Lilibet, who turned one on Saturday earlier this month.
Coincidence?
Not according to social media, where a torrent of brutal honesty was unleashed.
According to positive PR desperate Harry and Meghan, they hosted a relaxed birthday party for the tot on Saturday, and it was previously intimated that the royal cousins were invited.
None are shown in the pics released, only Lilibet and the photographer's kids.
According to the Daily Mail, the party had a “birthday cake, balloons, party games and picnic snacks, it is understood.
There was also a unicorn.
But no Paddington Bear.”
The Markles released the photograph hours after William and Catherine, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, posted new pictures of their kids, Louis with his father, William, and Catherine and the children including Princess Charlotte and Prince George waiting in a doorway.
If Prince Harry and Meghan Markle really want to improve their PR game, they will visit her stroke victim father Thomas, who they have reportedly ignored since 2018.
As for Dr. Drake's patients, it is important that they continue with appropriate medical care, and they should establish contact with another physician or midwife as soon as possible.
Dr. Drake wrote on Instagram, “Thank you for allowing me to be part of the most personal, profound, and important days of your lives.
Much love always.”
While the closure of her practice may have come as a shock, patients can take comfort in knowing that she will continue to prioritize patient autonomy and empowering women in her future endeavors.
