Prince Harry Banned From Wearing Army Uniform When Awarding Heroes

will not be able to wear his military uniform when presenting awards to war heroes at the Salute to Freedom Gala on a warship in New York on November 10.

Despite serving two tours in Afghanistan with the army, the veteran will not be allowed to wear his uniform at the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum as he was stripped of his honorary titles.

The Duke of Sussex, 37, will instead have to wear black tie at the gala, but he will still be able to pin his four medals on his suit.

Harry was stripped of his role as Captain General of the Royal Marines, which was handed down to him by his grandfather Prince Philip, as part of the final deal for him and , 40, to step back as front-line royals.

This means that he will have to wear plain clothes as he hands out awards at the Salute to Freedom Gala on November 10.

The royal family all agreed to wear mourning suits to spare Harry's blushes at the Duke of Edinburgh's funeral in April.

Harry spent 10 years in the Army, first with the Household Cavalry, Blues and Royals, and later in the Army Air Corps where he rose to the rank of captain.

He served in Afghanistan and wore his Blues and Royals uniform when he married Meghan at Windsor in 2018.

It was reported prior to the announcement of the final Megxit deal in February that had hoped to keep the titles.

He is said to have asked the Queen about the possibility, in what was described as a half-in-half-out role.

However, such a plan was vetoed and the title was taken back, along with his role as Honorary Air Commandant of RAF Honington in Suffolk and Commodore-in-Chief Small Ships and Diving, Royal Naval Command.

The Intrepid Museum's Salute to Freedom Gala recognizes extraordinary leadership and honors the brave men and women who serve in defense of our nation.

The event will pay tribute to those who have served in the U.S. forces, defending America, with the awards honoring those who have demonstrated courage and perseverance in the face of great danger or personal struggle.

Rocker and humanitarian John Bon Jovi will also receive the 2021 Intrepid Lifetime Achievement Award for his work as chairman of the John Bon Jovi Soul Foundation.

The organization focuses on breaking the cycle of poverty and homelessness through affordable housing and shelter, including permanent supportive housing for veterans.

John Bon Jovi recorded a charity single, Unbroken, for Harry's Invictus Games Foundation early in 2020.

The museum said, “We are extremely proud to bestow the inaugural Intrepid Valor Awards to five incredible individuals who have gone above and beyond the call of duty and persevered through extraordinary circumstances.

It is a core tenet of our institution to be there for our service members and veterans, who are always there for all of us.”

Harry's request for a wreath to be laid at the Cenotaph in London last year was rejected.

He was also pictured in a blue suit and medals last November when he laid flowers at the Los Angeles National Cemetery.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex now live in a multi-million dollar mansion in Montecito, in California's Santa Barbara, with their kids and .

They had first moved to Vancouver Island in Canada.

Despite being stripped of his honorary titles, Prince Harry continues to support military veterans and their families through various initiatives, including the Invictus Games Foundation.

Although he will not be able to wear his military uniform at the Salute to Freedom Gala, he will still be able to honor and recognize the bravery and sacrifice of those who have served in the U.S. forces.
