Prince Philip Returns Home to Windsor Castle After Month-long Hospitalization

After a month-long stay in the hospital, Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, has finally returned home to Windsor Castle.

His son, , couldn't hide his smile under his mask as he described how thrilled he was about the news.

On Tuesday, and his wife, , made their first public appearance just hours after the Duke of Edinburgh was discharged from the hospital.

The royal couple visited a vaccination pop-up center at Finsbury Park Mosque in North London, where they learned about the work being done to tackle the hesitancy over the Covid-19 vaccination.

When asked about his father's return to Windsor Castle, Prince Charles said, “I am thrilled about it,” while clearly smiling behind his mask.

He also added, “I have spoken to him several times.”

An optimistic Charles shared his gratitude to well-wishers as he told journalists, “Thank you very much.

I'll make sure he knows you're very pleased he's out.”

The Duke of Edinburgh was in the hospital for a month, his longest ever stay, but he has now been reunited with the Queen.

He was said to be in good spirits as he was discharged and waved as he arrived home at Windsor Castle for the first time in a month.

Buckingham Palace released a statement saying, “The Duke of Edinburgh has today been discharged from King Edward VII's hospital and has returned to Windsor Castle following treatment for an infection and a successful procedure for a pre-existing condition.

His Royal Highness wishes to thank all the medical staff who looked after him at both King Edward VII's hospital and St Bartholomew's Hospital and everyone who has sent their good wishes.”

Prince Philip was first admitted to the King Edward VII Hospital on 16 February for an infection before undergoing heart surgery for a pre-existing condition at St Bartholomew's Hospital.

A few days later, he was transferred back to King Edward's to recuperate and continue his treatment.

Throughout his time in the hospital, the Royal Family continued with their official duties.

Charles was the only member of the Royal Family to visit the 99-year-old at King Edward VII's hospital on 20 February, making a 200-mile round trip from his home in Highgrove, Gloucestershire.
