Prince William may not be able to give the title of Princess Royal to his daughter if Princess Anne still holds it when he becomes king.

Princess Anne was only given the title by the Queen in June 1987, even though it had been vacant since Princess Mary's passing in 1965.

Interestingly, Princess Mary received the title of Princess Royal for the first time in 1642.

It is said that Queen Henrietta Maria wanted to emulate the French monarch's eldest daughter's address as Madame Royal.
