Royal Family Celebrates Christmas Separately Amid Covid-19

For the second year in a row, the Royal Family's traditional Christmas gathering was impacted by coronavirus.

Due to the spread of the new Covid variant, Queen Elizabeth II was forced to break from her usual royal tradition by yet again celebrating the festivities at Windsor Castle rather than Sandringham.

More sadly, it was the Queen's first Christmas without her husband of 73 years, Prince Philip, by her side.

While the Queen celebrated at Windsor Castle with Prince Charles and his wife Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, Prince William and Duchess Catherine had a memorable holiday with their children at Anmer Hall, their home in Norfolk.

Like little ones across the country, on Christmas morning the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, couldn't resist a super early start and were reportedly awake at 5am to check out what Santa Claus left under the tree for them.

Luckily, William had left presents for all of them, including a camping kit for George, a climbing frame for Louis, and a children's video camera for Charlotte.

They also opened several games and books.

Prince William also treated his wife to a beautiful bracelet because he wanted to make this Christmas extra special.

Due to the Queen staying at Windsor, the family didn't attend the usual royal get-together, and instead Catherine cooked a traditional Christmas roast for lunch, making a gingerbread house, chocolate log, and apple pie for dessert with the children.

She also used her creative skills to decorate the table with candles, evergreen branches, and cones as centrepieces.

The young royal children loved reading the jokes from their Christmas crackers.

While the family couldn't join together with the Queen as normal, the Cambridges reportedly took part in a video call to comfort Her Majesty, as well as chatting with Prince Charles and several other royal relatives.

The Cambridges were still sticking to one royal tradition as William and Catherine were spotted taking their kids to church on Christmas morning.

Following Christmas, the family celebrated Boxing Day on Sunday, December 26.

It was a big game day for William and George, who, as soccer fans, were disappointed that their favourite team, Aston Villa, lost to Chelsea.

But they didn't let it ruin the festivities.

The Cambridges have not celebrated Christmas with Middleton since 2016 when William, Catherine, George, and Charlotte visited a church in Bucklebury.

For the most part, Catherine spends Christmas with her royal in-laws, though Catherine's parents, Carol and Michael, have regularly been invited to Sandringham throughout the years.

The family also didn't forget those who are alone or having to isolate away from loved ones, as the couple shared a message to pay tribute to them.

The couple said they recognised today is different to what so many of us have planned following a spike in Covid cases in recent weeks, forcing people to isolate away from their families.

It read, “This Christmas will be different to what so many of us had planned.
