Michael Douglas Rejects Meghan Markle’s Request to Attend Cannes Due to Sussex’s Claims Against Royal Family

Hollywood actor Michael Douglas is set to receive an honorary Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival this month.

The award recognizes the 78-year-old's brilliant career and engagement with cinema, and there will be a homage to the actor during the opening ceremony on May 16.

However, 's request to attend the festival was rejected by Douglas.

As soon as she learned of the news, the Duchess called the Hollywood star to request an invitation to Cannes.

Unfortunately for her, Douglas did something that embarrassed her to the point of rage.

Before the Sussexes resigned as unemployed royals and made repugnant statements about the royal family, Michael Douglas specifically posed for a photo with the standee of II with the caption, “Our best wishes to and Meghan.”

This led Douglas to see the Sussexes' duplicity, and subsequently turn back on them.

Despite knowing that Douglas is a royalist, Meghan still called him to request an invitation to Cannes because she wanted to become a well-known Hollywood actress.

Fortunately, Douglas disregarded her foolish request and banned her phone number, leaving the Duchess shaking with rage and embarrassment.

Recently, Michael Douglas reportedly moved into a new apartment inside St James's Palace in London with his wife Catherine Zeta-Jones.

The superstar actors, who have been married for 22 years and share two children, are huge fans of the monarchy and have positioned themselves where they now have several royal neighbours.

St James's Palace houses the London residencies of the Prince of Wales, the Royal Princess and Princess Alexandra, and the christenings of Princes George and Louis were held at the Chapel Royal.

Catherine, 53, and Michael, 78, are believed to have chosen London's oldest palace, built in the 16th century by Henry VIII, as their base while visiting the capital.

He won an Academy Award for his iconic role as banker Gordon Gekko in 1987's Wall Street, and continues to be a major screen presence in Marvel's recent Ant-Man films and his award-winning comedy turn in TV show The Kominsky Method.

“From my first time here in 1979 for The China Syndrome to my most recent premiere for Behind the Candelabra in 2013, the festival has always reminded me that magic of cinema is not just in what we see on screen but in its ability to impact people all around the world.”

Past recipients of the award include late French film director Agnes Varda and actor Jodie Foster.

The son of legendary Hollywood actor Kirk Douglas, his first foray into filmmaking was as a producer of One Flew Over the Cuckoo Nest in 1975, which also won him an Oscar.

He was last at Cannes for Behind the Candelabra, featuring his much-loved turn as flamboyant pianist Liberace.

The jury for the 2023 Cannes Film Festival includes Oscar winner Brie Larson, American actor Paul Dano and French director Juliette Uchornau to the nine-member lineup.

The group will select which of the 21 competing films is awarded the top prize at this year's May 16-27 festival.

The four-woman and five-man panel also includes Moroccan director Mariam Touzani, French actor Denis Menache, British Zambian director Runga Nonayoni, Argentinian filmmaker Damien Sifrone and French-Afghan writer-director Atik Rahimi.

Among the contenders of the festival are Wes Anderson's Asteroid City, Hiroo Kazukori's Monster, Ken Loach's The Old Oak and Justine Tritt's Anatomy Doonchute.

In conclusion, Michael Douglas has rejected 's request to attend the Cannes Film Festival due to the Sussexes' claims against the royal family.

Despite this, Douglas is set to receive an honorary Palme d'Or at the festival for his brilliant career and engagement with cinema.
