Lorraine Kelly Criticizes Meghan Markle’s Appearance on Ellen DeGeneres Show
It seems like Meghan Markle's appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show didn't sit well with everyone.
Lorraine Kelly, a British television presenter, recently gave her verdict on the interview and was less than impressed with the Duchess of Sussex's stunt.
Speaking on ITV, Kelly said, “It's a strange one isn't it, you're right, you wouldn't see Kate do that but they are distancing themselves from the royal family.
I think what she's trying to do with paid leave for parents is actually a really good thing.
I think the sort of stunt didn't really work for me,” commenting on Meghan's skit.
Kelly also criticized Markle's outfit during the interview, blasting her cut-out blouse.
Trending:
“It was the outfit she donned for the studio chat with Ellen that Lorraine hit out at as it looks like moths have been at it.
The shirt featured holes cut out in the balloon sleeves, which Meghan paired with a pair of straight-legged black slacks,” Kelly said on her program as a photo of Meghan appeared on screen.
Kelly then moved on to the show's regular fashion segment and gushed over how Kate Middleton looked in her signature green dress.
However, fans at home were rolling their eyes at the segment, as one posted on Twitter, “Lorraine referring to the top that Meghan wore on the Ellen show, then promptly told us how she loved Kate's green dress.
We see you, you can't help yourself.”
The show host also wasn't hugely impressed by the show's format, which she compared to the “get out my ear” segment on Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway.
“I mean, fair play to her for going for it.
But the reaction usually is when Ant and Dec do it.
It's the reaction of the public.
It's really, really funny.
But you can see they were so overawed all of the people there that they just went ‘Yeah, yeah,' and weren't reacting,” Kelly said.
Royal expert Emily Andrews claimed that Meghan rebooted her personality with her appearance on Ellen.
“We often talk about the British sense of humor and the American sense of humor and maybe Meghan struggled slightly over here because she's very American, where celebrity and achievement is celebrated whereas in the UK we slightly have this tall poppy syndrome.
You don't want to get too big for your boots,” she said.
Andrews continued, “I think she has needed to reboot her image a little bit because some Americans I've been told by friends out there felt that her politicizing cold calling senators about paid family leave.
Look, the Americans fought a war to get rid of the British royal family.
And now there's a member of the royal family campaigning.
One of the things Meghan didn't like when she was in the UK was the restrictions that being a member of the royal family gave her.
I think many Americans will love this and will love the acting but has it worn off in America as well.”
It seems that Meghan's appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show has sparked controversy, with opinions divided on her stunt and outfit.
While some have praised her for promoting paid parental leave, others like Lorraine Kelly have criticized her approach.
It remains to be seen how Meghan will continue to navigate her new role outside the royal family and whether her American style will continue to be a topic of discussion.
