Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, have made a second official split from Kensington Palace, but this time it’s an Instagram split.

The couple’s move to the popular social media platform has royal fans excited at the prospect of glimpsing even more of their private life and updates on their comings and goings.

However, it’s unlikely that they will be sharing selfies of themselves lounging in bed with their baby or anything like that.

Instead, they plan to use the account to spread awareness about their causes.

Their first post on Instagram explains their intentions, and it seems that they have a rapt audience eager to consume their message.

Within hours of launching their account, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex broke a Guinness World Record for reaching 1 million followers on Instagram in just 5 hours and 45 minutes, faster than anyone ever before.

They dethroned past record holders, including Pope Francis, who reached 1 million followers in 12 hours after debuting his verified Vatican media channel, Francisus, back in 2016.

The K-pop star Kang Daniel is setting a new time of 5 hours and 45 minutes.

Currently, Meghan and Harry are at 2.6 million followers, and the number continues to grow by the minute.

Their newly created account only follows back 23 accounts, most of which are charitable organizations.

Among the followers, their new accounts are celebrities David Beckham and Gwyneth Paltrow, the Duchess’ close friend Jessica Mulroney, as well as Princess Eugenia, who commented, Welcome, cousins!

The profile picture is an image bearing a white version of couples’ royal cipher, the intertwined initials H&M below a coronet on a navy background.

Their first post, a picture gallery, is kicked off with the same blue background, featuring their monogram and a welcome message written in a mix of italics and uppercase fonts.

The carefully chosen pictures featured in the gallery highlight the work they are most passionate about and include their recent visit to a girls’ school in Morocco, Harry’s work with African conservation charities, and Meghan’s cooking project with the GrinFell community.

The gallery also included photos of them on engagements around the world, including trips to Australia and Fiji.

In a message on their first post, Harry and Meghan thanked people for their support, saying, “Welcome to our official Instagram!

We look forward to sharing the work that drives us, the causes we support, important announcements, and the opportunity to shine a light on key issues.

We thank you for your support and welcome you to At Sussex Royal, Harry and Meghan.”

Followers were keen to share their support for the couple, who are expecting their first child this month and are expected to share the first picture of their little one.

Among the thousands of uplifting comments, one follower wrote, “I truly wish I could personally give Meghan an apology.

A part of me sided with judgmental fools, and now that I’m dealing with the same judgment from my own family, I can’t imagine how hurt she must have felt.

I applaud you for holding your head up high, you beautiful soul.

You are my hero.”

Another added, “Let’s make this Instagram what Harry and Meghan’s is all about, positiveness and love.”

Praising them as inspiring, a follower said, “1.5 million in only a few hours, their influence and reach is amazing.”

And a fourth wrote, “I hope haters and negative posts will be removed and blocked.”
