Lawyer Cleared by Regulator After Suggesting Meghan Markle Should Have Honored Her Mother in Naming Daughter
A lawyer who suggested that Meghan Markle should have honored her mother in naming her daughter has been cleared by a regulator.
Joanna Tok, a family law attorney, replied to a post by journalist Julie Burchill on Twitter in 2021, suggesting that the Sussexes should have called their second child Georgina Floydina.
Tok replied, “No Doria?
Don't black names matter?”
in apparent reference to Doria Ragland, Meghan's mother.
Tok was initially suspended by her own law firm Family Law Cafe and was subject to 83 complaints to the Bar Standards Board (BSB).

However, she was subsequently reinstated by her company and has now said the BSB also dismissed the allegations against her.
In a statement, Tok said, “My tweets were misinterpreted, perhaps deliberately by some, and I was publicly vilified with threats made about me and my family.
The furor was whipped up by those who should have known better in my view.”
Tok added, “The Family Law Bar Association and the Bar Council put out rash comments without speaking with me to see what my side of the events was.
This whole episode shows how a few people can decide what they think something means and bypass any attempt to clarify or use due process.
I am sorry that those working with me had to also stand up to some nasty bullying behavior.
I continue to support British tolerance and the rule of law and I always will.”
Meanwhile, Virchil stated that she had been fired by British broadsheet The Daily Telegraph following the incident, though a source at the newspaper disputed this.
The columnist's original Twitter post on June 6, 2021, minutes after the announcement of the birth, read, “What a missed opportunity.
They could have called it Georgina Floydina.”
Two days later, she posted on Facebook, “I've been sacked by The Telegraph, it's been a lovely five years, and I'll always be grateful to them for ending my wilderness years.”
Notably, there was a rumor that Meghan Markle and Doria were at Logger's heads over baby Lily's name.
The row between mother and daughter occurred in baby Lily's nursery in the dead of night.
It is believed that Doria was unpleased in not having been acknowledged in her granddaughter's name in some way.
This actually has a real-life implication as people have raised this question and then a puff piece was put out saying that Lily was a nod to Miss Ragland because she used to call Meghan flower as a child.
The baby's name is a form of Lily.
This is believed to have been a stab in the gut for Doria as she allegedly felt her daughter had not acknowledged her in any way, shape, or form.
We know that Miss Ragland was playing an active role in Archie's upbringing as there was a paparazzi drone shot of them in the backyard together.
Doria allegedly felt that Meghan was pushing her away and failing to acknowledge her African American roots.
It is thought that there was a full-blown flinging match where Doria was thrown across the room where soiled nappies and toys were thrown by Miss Ragland at her daughter.
They were also apparently overheard by staff arguing.
The incident highlights the sensitive issue of naming children and the importance of acknowledging cultural heritage and family ties.
It also raises questions about the impact of social media on public discourse and the potential for misinterpretation and misinformation to spread quickly.
