Duke and Duchess of Cambridge Reportedly Considering Relocating to Berkshire

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are said to be considering a move to Berkshire, which has come as a shock to their London social circle.

Currently splitting their time between Kensington Palace and their weekend retreat in Norfolk, the royal couple is reportedly ready to make a change.

According to reports, Catherine and William are eyeing up a move to Windsor and are interested in the Fort Belvedere residence.

Their London circle is said to be aghast at this news, wondering what's wrong with Amner Hall, their 10-bedroom weekend house in Norfolk.

Even their Greenwelly friends consider this corner of Berkshire to not be proper countryside and horribly naff.

However, a source told the paper that people can be very snotty about that area west of London, but that mainly comes out of ignorance.

It's picturesque and also meaningfully close to town, unlike other parts of the home counties.

Last year, it was reported that William and Catherine were seriously considering relocating to Windsor to be closer to the Queen and royal decision-making.

A move to Windsor would also see them nearer Catherine's family, who is based not far away in Bucklebury.

A source told at the time, “Amner Hall made sense while William was a helicopter pilot in East Anglia and it was useful for Christmases at Sandringham, but it doesn't really work anymore.

It's a little too far away for weekends, but Windsor is a perfect compromise.

They are eyeing up options in the area.”

Duchess Catherine and Queen Elizabeth are reportedly very close.

In fact, the two female royals have so much respect for each other.

And the monarch also sees Middleton as one of her strongest and most reliable allies.

In recent months, the Queen suffered a series of health problems.

An intruder with a crossbow also managed to get into Windsor Castle on Christmas Day.

One tabloid claimed that Catherine couldn't help but worry about the Queen.

So, she convinced the monarch to move into one of the apartments in Kensington Palace.

To her surprise, the Queen agreed.

With Prince Philip gone, the Queen is alone aside from a handful of trusted staff, rattling around Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle, which, due to its sheer size, is terribly difficult to protect.

William and Catherine have been worried about her long before an intruder shook everyone up, an unnamed source said.

The Duchess allegedly came up with the idea of asking the Queen to move into the Kensington Palace grounds because she knows how close the monarch is to her children.

Catherine thinks it would be good for her.

The Queen loves the children and says they keep her young.

At Kensington Palace, she'll be able to look out the window and see them playing whenever she likes and of course, she'd have an open invitation to pop in and see them, the unnamed source explained.

Catherine also allegedly wants to take this opportunity to take care of Her Majesty as her way of giving her thanks for everything that she's done for her and her entire family.

At her age, it makes sense to downsize.

Even Philip preferred a smaller hunter's lodge in Sandringham to the castles, toward the end.

She would feel much more comfortable in a smaller home.

And there's a perfect solution, a fully renovated empty apartment right next door to the future king and his young family, the unnamed source said.

As of late, there is no confirmation that the Queen has plans to move out of Windsor Castle following the incident that took place on Christmas Day.

But there's no questioning the fact that Middleton adores the monarch and is very protective of her.
