Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s recent actions have caused a stir in the United States.

Lee Cohen, a former expert on Anglo-American matters for the House of Representatives Foreign Affairs Committee, has criticized the Duke and Duchess of Sussex for their controversial interview.

Cohen, now a senior fellow at the UK think tank the Beaux Group and the Danube Institute, stated that many Americans initially believed that the blame must lie elsewhere.

However, recent events have led to more critical assessments of the couple in the US.

In an article for The Sun, Cohen wrote that everyone loves a Cinderella story on both sides of the Atlantic.

But as the Brits got to know Meghan, they began to see her for what she really was: an ambitious self-promoter with a social justice agenda.

Now, Americans are getting a chance to see what the couple is really about, and the fairy tale, complete with evil in-laws and half-siblings, is wearing thin.

Over the past few days, US headlines have been filled with fury, and this is expected to feed through to general opinion.

Cohen blasted Harry for describing the First Amendment, which protects the right to freedom of speech, as “bonkers” during a podcast interview earlier this month.

He said that it doesn't seem to have dawned on Harry that criticizing his host country is unlikely to bring him many admirers there, regardless of whether he is representing his birth country.

Cohen concluded that there will always be some who passionately defend the fallen royal couple no matter their behavior.

However, with each new muddled Sussex observation, unsubstantiated claim, and disloyal act, ever more Americans will come to realize that the couple's failures rest on their own shoulders rather than on the British nation or the institution of monarchy.

The Sussexes, who are currently living in California after quitting royal duties last year, made a set of damaging claims about the royals in their tell-all TV interview with Winfrey, which aired in March.

Harry went on to criticize his family once again during his appearance on the Armchair Expert podcast earlier this month.

The Duke also faced backlash over his comments about the First Amendment, with a host of US commentators reacting furiously to his remarks.

Harry has sparked further controversy with his latest attack on the royal family in his new mental health documentary series with Winfrey, The Me You Can't See, which was released on Apple TV Plus on Friday.

The Duke accused his family of total neglect when Meghan was left feeling suicidal by social media trolling.

He said that every single ask, request, warning, whatever it is, to stop just got met with total silence or total neglect.

Harry added that they spent four years trying to make it work and did everything possible to stay there and carry on doing the role and doing the job.

The 36-year-old also lambasted the parenting skills of his father .

Harry warned that he would never be bullied into silence in the future.
