Piers Morgan’s Opinions on Meghan Markle Found Acceptable by Ofcom

Former Good Morning Britain presenter, Piers Morgan, has been cleared of any wrongdoing by Ofcom over his comments on 's interview with .

The media watchdog stated that restricting such opinions would be an unwarranted and chilling restriction on freedom of expression.

This comes after more than 57,000 complaints were filed to ITV following Piers' outburst back in March, in which he labelled Meghan's claims as false.

During the controversial debate, Piers Morgan faced a huge backlash when he questioned the validity of 's claims about having suicidal feelings.

GMB's Alex Beresford stepped in to criticise Piers' standpoint before the broadcaster stormed off the set.

Meghan and Harry issued a formal complaint over Piers to ITV and Ofcom following the dramatic clash.

In the initial aftermath of the row, Ofcom stated it would be launching an investigation into the episode of Good Morning Britain under harm and offence rules.

However, six months on, Piers has emerged from the storm with no official action against him.

After an investigation into the explosive TV moment, Ofcom has now said that “Mr Morgan was entitled to say he disbelieved the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's allegations and to hold and express strong views that rigorously challenged their account.”

Piers Morgan took to Twitter to express his delight at the decision, stating that it was a resounding victory for free speech and a defeat for Princess Pinocchio's who think we should all be compelled to believe every fork-tongued word they say.

He also announced a new column about his vindication.

While some viewers of GMB were pleased with the outcome, others disagreed.

One Twitter user congratulated Piers and expressed their desire to see him back on the show, while another felt that he had a right to comment on the serious content and allegations that were put forward.

However, others felt that it was never a vindication, stating that the decision only protected his freedom to believe or disbelieve Meghan Markle's allegations and did not determine whether what he said was true or not.

Ofcom's decision highlights the importance of freedom of expression in the media industry and the need to allow individuals to express strongly held and robustly argued views, even if they are potentially harmful or highly offensive.

While some may disagree with Piers Morgan's opinions, it is important to remember that everyone has the right to express their beliefs and challenge the accounts of others.
