Inside Look at the Royals’ Drawing Room as Duke and Duchess of Cambridge Host Barack Obama

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge gave the world a rare glimpse into their private lives as they hosted former US President Barack Obama in their drawing room at Kensington Palace.

The room, which had been recently refurbished, had a cozy and comfortable feel to it, resembling more of a country home than a grand palace.

The cream sofas were adorned with floral cushions, and the grand black piano behind William and Mr. Obama was decorated with intimate family photos and an elaborate bouquet.

Among the framed photos on display were iconic shots of and his family.

One picture featured a young in his teenage years, while another showed playing with her two sons in a flower garden in 1988.

There was also a photo of Kate's mother, Carol Middleton, looking glamorous in a sky-blue Catherine Walker outfit at the 2011 royal wedding.

On the side table beside the prince and the former president was a black-and-white wildlife book by world-renowned photographer Nick Brandt.

Brandt's book, entitled On This Earth, A Shadow Falls, is known for capturing the vanishing grandeur of East Africa with widescreen panoramic shots of majestic animals and landscapes.

The room also contained two items that the former president had presented to little in the past.

The first was a stunning handmade rocking horse, and the second was a blanket made from the finest alpaca wool to celebrate his birth in 2013.

Photos captured proudly riding his fabulous gift, while his mother, the Duchess of Cambridge, watched on in delight.

The royals displayed their thrifty side with their choice of drawing room alcohol, which included a 70cl bottle of Smirnoff vodka worth £12 and a bottle of Gordon's gin costing £14, along with various mixers.

Kate had the help of an interior designer for the drawing room, which is one of 22 inside the couple's private apartment that once belonged to Princess Margaret.

The two-year-old prince could briefly be seen standing inside watching their guests come inside from the rain.

Adorable photos show the former president kneeling down to greet the little prince, who was wearing a My First Year's Dressing gown worth £27.

Unfortunately, British snappers were barred from the exclusive event, and only photos taken by Kensington Palace and a White House photographer were released.

During their visit, William and Mr. Obama discussed anti-poaching and conservation issues, highlighting their shared passion for wildlife protection.

The two men seemed at ease in each other's company, with William even jokingly warning Mr. Obama not to touch the microphone during a speech he was giving later that day.

The drawing room visit was part of Mr. Obama's three-day trip to the UK, which included a meeting with Prime Minister David Cameron and lunch with II at Windsor Castle.

Mr. Obama's visit to the UK marked his last trip to the country as president, and he expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome he received from the royal family and the British people.
