Former Buckingham Palace Employee Who Made Racist Remarks Allegedly Predicted Harry and Meghan’s Marriage Would End in Tears

Lady Susan Hussey, a former staff member at Buckingham Palace who recently resigned after making inappropriate remarks, allegedly previously disparaged Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's union.

Hussey, who was one of Queen Elizabeth's closest confidants and the godmother of Prince William, was quoted in Tom Bower's 2022 biography, Revenge, Meghan, Harry, and the War Between the Windsors.

According to Bower, in 2017, during a lunch with a group of theatre producers and directors, the conversation turned to Markle, and Hussey told them that “it will all end in tears, mark my words.”

Bower added that Hussey was specifically chosen by Queen Elizabeth to assist Markle in settling into royal life.

Some people cited in the biography denounced Bower after the book's publication in July, alleging that he had misrepresented Markle.

Bower himself made his feelings about the Duchess of Sussex public in a July interview with Piers Morgan, saying that she was doing “something absolutely horrible to Britain.”

However, Hussey's account received no response from Buckingham Palace.

Earlier last week, it was announced that Hussey would continue to be a member of the royal family as a new “lady of the household,” retaining her previous position.

The position was created to replace ladies-in-waiting, a non-salaried honorific position granted to aristocratic women who serve as personal attendants to members of the royal family, according to Michaela Freel.

Hussey was referred to as the “number one-head girl” of the palace and was previously included in Tatler as “one of the core trusted persons helping the Queen in her later life.”

However, Hussey submitted her resignation two days after the announcement of her new role.

Buckingham Palace released a statement on Wednesday, saying that Hussey had made “deeply regrettable comments” and offered “her profound apologies for the hurt caused.”

The resignation was announced immediately after Ngozi Fulani, the leader of the UK charity Sister Space, said in a tweet that she had been questioned about her origins at an event Camilla, the Queen consort, attended on Tuesday.

She claimed that despite constantly confirming that she was born in the UK, a palace service person kept asking her the same question.

In her initial tweet, Fulani referred to the employee as “Lady S.H.”

A palace spokeswoman said in a statement provided to Insider on Wednesday, “Ngozi Fulani has been contacted about this and is being invited to talk about every aspect of her experience in person, if she chooses.”
