Whoopi Goldberg Criticizes Meghan Markle’s Comments on Deal or No Deal

Former actress and current talk show host, Whoopi Goldberg, has criticized 's recent comments about her time on the game show Deal or No Deal.

Speaking on her show, The View, Goldberg accused Markle of making other women feel bad by claiming that her time as a briefcase girl on the show made her feel like a bimbo.

Goldberg argued that taking jobs that aren't ideal is part of being new to the entertainment business.

had made the comments on a recent episode of her podcast, Archetypes, saying that she felt objectified and not seen as a real person during her time on the show between 2006 and 2007.

She said that while she was grateful the job had helped pay bills, she felt she was only valued for her beauty and not her brains.

This prompted one of her former co-stars to come out and defend the show, saying that models who opened briefcases on the show were not chosen just because of their looks.

Goldberg, however, disagreed, stating that she didn't think the people watching the show would have objectified the briefcase girls.

“That's showbiz baby,” she quipped.

She also argued that she believes the objectification that Markle had been feeling may have been coming from within, and how she felt about how these women were being portrayed.

Goldberg acknowledged that Markle had the right to walk away, but felt bad for the other women on the show that didn't feel that way.

Sunny Hostin, another host on the show, added her support for Markle's decision to leave the show, saying, “I also appreciate that she said, well, this makes me feel bad, I'm going to walk away, and she walked away.”

Goldberg agreed with Hostin, but emphasized that if Markle saw it as objectification, she shouldn't make the other women feel bad because they were also just trying to make a living.

Markle had previously said on her podcast that she quit the show because she was so much more than what was being objectified on the stage.

“I didn't like feeling forced to be all looks and little substance, and that's how it felt for me at the time being reduced to the specific archetype, the word bimbo,” the Duchess of Sussex added.

Before she became a member of the British Royal Family, Meghan Markle was small screen royalty.

For seven seasons, she starred on Suits, a USA Network business drama that she left in 2018 to pursue a life with .

Now, in a new interview with Variety, Meghan opened up about whether she'd ever return to acting.

“No, I'm done,” she said.

“I guess never say never, but my intention is to absolutely not.”

While Meghan might be done with the silver screen, it's likely that she'll be fictionalized in future movies and TV shows.

Her relationship with Harry was already the subject of a 2018 Lifetime movie, Harry and Meghan: A Royal Romance, where the former actor was played by Parisa Fitzhenley.
