Why Are the Royals Wearing Three Poppies on Remembrance Sunday?
On November 8th, Queen Elizabeth II and the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton, joined Prince Philip at the Balcony of the Cenotaph in Westminster, London for Remembrance Sunday.
Meanwhile, Prince Harry, Prince Charles, and Prince William laid wreaths.
The Queen and Kate Middleton both wore black coats and a black hat for the ceremony, as well as three poppies each pinned to their jackets.
While most of the public opt for one poppy worn on their chest in November, the royals have agreed on three poppies.
But why are they wearing three poppies?
Here are some theories.
Trending:
One theory is that it is for visibility.
While none of the royal family have revealed the choices behind how many poppies or what kind they wear, in a forum, one member of the public guessed that the many poppies are worn for visibility.
It is important that the royal family show their support while out and about for and around Remembrance Day.
The reason the Queen and Kate Middleton may be wearing multiple poppies is to make it clear they are showing support in pictures and on TV.
Another theory is that it's a corsage.
One person guessed that it is simply one type of design, a corsage version of the poppy.
“It's a corsage so it is actually one single wearable item probably,” they shared.
There is also a theory that the poppies represent each service.
The Queen has been spotted before wearing five poppies at one time.
The public thought this could be to represent each service in the war, including the army, navy, RAF, civil defence, and women.
However, this does not explain why this year the Queen and the Duchess are wearing three.
