Meghan Markle’s 2021 Wardrobe: The Cost of Her High-End Fashion

Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, has been known for her penchant for high-end fashion since marrying Prince Harry three years ago.

Despite leaving the royal family in March 2020 and moving to California, she continued to flaunt her love for designer outfits and pricey accessories.

In 2021 alone, the Duchess wore outfits worth a total of £58,388, according to research by Female.

This is £14,000 more than her 2020 total of £44,188.

However, compared to 2019, the figure was significantly less.

That year, amid rumours of disquiet in the royal camp, Meghan wore clothes valued at more than £211,693.

This year's impressive figure came despite the fact that the former Suits actress was seen less frequently in public than in 2020 due to having no royal duties and being pregnant with her second child Lilibet.

In comparison, Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, had outfits valued at £48,000 in 2021, despite appearing in public far more often than Meghan during her time as a frontline royal.

Kate has also made a point of recycling outfits to promote her eco-friendly credentials, as demonstrated in October when she wore a dress to Prince William's Earthshot Awards that she had previously worn in 2011.

The mother of three was praised for her decision to reuse the £4,290 Alexander McQueen dress at the red carpet event.

Meghan's most expensive outfit of the year was worn in New York alongside Harry for the Global Live Citizen event.

Her outfit for the event had a retail value of £8,537, according to McSecurity.

It included a Loro Piano cashmere coat that cost £4,274 and wide-leg trousers from the same designer that would set you back £1,231.

The news emerged as an eco-friendly fashion expert claimed that Kate was inspiring fashion-conscious millennials to shun fast fashion.

Co-dog girl founder Yulia Omelich said, “There has been a perception in the fashion industry for a long time that everything must be new and wearing the same clothes again is old and boring.

Kate showed that isn't true, and to have such a high-profile member of the royal family back it gives the movement real weight.

It was in its infancy before, but her support has given it a huge boost.”

Meghan's approval rating among Brits was negative, with 65% viewing her negatively and only 26% positively.

Harry fared slightly better, with 34% liking him and 59% disliking him.

Their standing in the country they left behind has improved only partially since, with the latest data from Quarter 3 putting Meghan on 28% positive and 51% negative.

Harry was on 36% positive and 43% negative in the same batch of data.

In November, Meghan's credibility came under attack again during the Mail on Sunday's unsuccessful appeal in Meghan's privacy and copyright lawsuit over a letter she sent her father.

The Duchess ultimately won, but not before she was forced to apologise for misleading the court about authorising an aide to co-operate with the authors of the biography Finding Freedom.

Overall, Harry and Meghan's 2021 included both victory and defeat.

They had meaningful wins against the media, including claiming the scalp of ardent critic Piers Morgan, who resigned from Good Morning Britain.

On royal matters, however, they ended the year with their reputation having suffered significant damage while the royals they criticised appear to be as popular as ever.
