Harry and Meghan Return to UK for Queen’s Funeral: Will They Make It About Them?
In the early hours of Sunday morning, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle made a surprise return to the Long Walk to view the sea of floral tributes left for their late great-grandmother, the Queen.
The couple joined Prince William and Kate Middleton, the Prince and Princess of Wales, for the occasion.
However, it seems that Markle was more interested in viewing William than the floral tributes.
William and Catherine were confident and in charge, with Catherine looking elegant as always.
On the other hand, Harry appeared uncomfortable at first, fussing endlessly with his pockets and recording equipment.
Meghan also looked surprisingly subdued, leaving many to wonder what has been said to the Sussexes.
Trending:
Despite their past criticisms of the royal family, both Harry and Meghan appeared deferential to the Cambridges.
Royal fans have noticed Meghan's recording equipment on her hip, speculating that she may be hoping to gather evidence of any dislike she may receive for her next interview or broadcast.
Just two weeks ago, Meghan appeared on the cover of New York's The Cup magazine, clad in chic designer outfits, for another royal gauntlet-throwing session.
She told journalist Alison P. Davis, “just by existing, we were upsetting the dynamic of the hierarchy.
So we go.
Okay, fine.
Let's get out of here.
Happy to.”
This statement sounded like a threat of more revelations to come.
Instead of enjoying their weekend, the Sussexes found themselves back in the lion's den, coming face-to-face with the very people they have publicly criticized.
Meghan postponed the next episode of her debut podcast, Archetypes, and cancelled a scheduled visit to the UN General Assembly in Manhattan with Prince Harry as they remain in the UK during a period of national mourning.
Meghan was due to appear on NBC's The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon on Tuesday, September 20th, but these plans have since been abandoned amidst funeral preparations.
The publication is also reporting that Meghan's next podcast episode, due to drop on Spotify on Tuesday, is set to be pushed back.
The couple is considering whether to fly their children Archie and Lilibet to the UK in time for the funeral on Monday.
The children have been separated from their parents for over a week and have been looked after by Markle's mother, Doria Ragland, in California.
The Sussexes are also considering helping Miss Ragland come over to London for the state funeral.
However, the couple has been criticized by royal fans on social media for potentially making the Queen's funeral about themselves or promoting their brands.
One truth seeker warned, “Don't you dare turn the Queen's funeral into the Harry and Meghan show.
The Queen wasn't important enough for you to visit Balmoral when she invited you.”
As the world waits to see how the Sussexes will behave at the funeral, it remains to be seen whether they will take the opportunity to make amends with the royal family or continue to cause controversy.
