President Donald Trump said in a cabinet meeting on Wednesday morning that his daughter and senior advisor, Ivanka Trump, doesn’t get enough credit for her work because she is a Trump family member.

President Donald Trump said in a cabinet meeting on Wednesday morning that his daughter and senior advisor, Ivanka Trump, doesn’t get enough credit for her work because she’s a Trump family member.

Shortly after the meeting began, Trump handed the floor to his daughter, who spoke about a new employment initiative and the Trump administration’s “private sector commitment to all of our workforce.”

After she finished speaking, the president lavished praise on his daughter — as well as his trademark disdain for the media.

“Wow,” says the voice. According to a pool story, Trump joked, “If that were Ivanka ‘Smith,’ the press would think that was completely genius.” Members of his cabinet laughed. “They’ll think, ‘Oh, she was fine,’” says Ivanka Trump.

“That was truly incredible,” he said to his daughter, who smiled and thanked him.

In a cabinet meeting, Trump says, “Wow, if that were Ivanka Smith, the press would say, “That was absolutely genius, we’ve never seen anything like that.”

A reporter later in the meeting asked Trump if he believed Russia was still threatening the US and its elections. According to a pool story, Trump quickly replied with a “No,” then continued to “smirk and laugh” as reporters exited the room.

Trump’s remarks came after he was widely chastised for saying at a press conference in Helsinki on Monday that he took Russian President Vladimir Putin’s word over US intelligence findings that Russia meddled in the 2016 presidential election.

Trump has since apologised for his remarks. Trump said he supported US intelligence agencies during a meeting with members of Congress on Tuesday, and said he misspoke when he said he didn’t see any reason why Russia would meddle in the US election.

By Wednesday morning, however, he was defending the press conference and chastising the “many haters who wanted to see a boxing match.”

In a cabinet meeting on Wednesday, he also confirmed that Putin understands his “tough” foreign policy “a lot better” than “the media.”
