Iran insists that the US should remove sanctions and ensure that Trump’s mistakes are not repeated.
Iran’s foreign ministry spokesman said on Monday that the US should suspend sanctions and have assurances that the errors committed by former US President Donald Trump’s administration will not be replicated.
“The United States can lift sanctions on Iran and provide assurances that Trump’s mistakes will not be repeated, and then we will speak within the context of the JCPOA,” Saeed Khatibzadeh said at a weekly press conference.
President Joe Biden of the United States has proposed to work with European countries to resurrect Iran’s 2015 nuclear pact with six world powers, dubbed the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) (JCPOA). In 2018, Trump dropped it and reimposed sanctions. However, Tehran claims that the United States must first lift sanctions and rejoin the deal.
