Meghan Markle, Prince Harry Mourn Prince Philip in brief initial statement

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry issued a brief statement in memory of Harry's grandfather, Prince Philip, who died peacefully at the age of 99 on Friday morning, according to the Palace.

To honor Philip's life, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex updated the homepage of their non-profit Archewell's website. “In loving memory of His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh 1921-2021. Thank you for your service… You will be greatly missed.”

The couple currently resides in the state of California.

Within the first few hours of Philip's passing, the pair did not show on camera or make any longer comments regarding him. Many current and former world leaders have posted extensive tributes of their own.

Prince Harry travelled from the United States to attend his grandfather's funeral, and government advice says that he will be able to do so without breaking any lockout laws.

Some wondered whether the Duke of Sussex will be granted an exemption to travel to the UK to pay his respects to Prince Philip, but there is a loophole that allows overseas visitors to stay under England's existing restrictions.

Meghan, his wife, will not be attending due to medical advice due to her pregnancy, having made every attempt to accompany her husband.

Harry has since released a longer statement on the same website, detailing his relationship with the deceased senior royal.
