Duchess of Cambridge Hosts First Christmas Carol Concert at Westminster Abbey

The Duchess of Cambridge has taken on the role of host for her first Christmas Carol concert at Westminster Abbey, where she married a decade ago.

The event, which was held on Wednesday 8th December, was the brainchild of the Duchess herself.

Kensington Palace confirmed that the intention of the concert is to honour the incredible work of individuals and organisations across the UK who have gone above and beyond to support their communities throughout the pandemic.

The guest list for the event will include those who have made significant contributions to their communities over the past two years.

This will include charity staff, teachers, emergency service workers, and people from the armed forces.

The concert will also feature readings by , British Paralympian and junior doctor Kim Daybell, and presenter Kate Garraway, whose husband Derek Draper spent a year in hospital after contracting COVID-19.

The Duchess will be featured in the introduction to the special Christmas Eve programme, Royal Carols Together at Christmas.

Singer Tom Walker will perform his Christmas single, For Those Who Can't Be Here, during the concert.

The Abbey Choir will also sing carols, and there will be musical performances by Goulding and Lewis.

According to Natalie Olivieri, a Royal journalist at Today Extra Australia, this will be the Duchess's first time hosting an event to honour, rather than just being a part of it.

The concert is a token of respect and a gesture of thanks to the healthcare industry, which helped the nation in its fight against the pandemic.

This is the first time a member of the Royal Family has done anything like this, and there will be a big thank you for all the volunteers and organisations, the doctors and nurses, everyone in the healthcare industry who has helped to go above and beyond to get us through the coronavirus pandemic.

Details of which members of the Royal Family are attending have not been released, but Natalie said it is expected to include the Duke and Duchess' children.

The other three Cambridge children, George, Charlotte, and Louis, are expected to make a special appearance during the concert.

A source from The Sun commented on the upcoming programme, claiming that it is a brand new format.

The royals have never hosted a televised TV concert before, and to have the Duchess leading on it is a big deal.

The source added that it will be a fantastic Christmas carol concert that will be TV gold for viewers at home.

Overall, the event is an opportunity to recognise and celebrate the contributions of those who have gone above and beyond to support their communities throughout the pandemic.
