Duke and Duchess of Cambridge Make Sweet Cameo in St. Patrick’s Day Video Message

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, and Catherine, have made a sweet cameo in a St. Patrick's Day video message, which was released by the Irish Foreign Ministry on Wednesday to celebrate the occasion.

The video comprised world leaders including President Joe Biden and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison, among others.

In the clip, is seen wearing a forest green sweater while his wife Catherine sports an apt emerald green bouquet jacket and her Daniela Draper shamrock necklace.

The second in line to the throne starts off the couple's message by speaking the traditional Irish Gaelic language saying, “Beann a ffei, le feile, pódraig ott,” meaning happy St. Patrick's Day.

His wife adds, “We're delighted to wish you all a very happy St. Patrick's Day.”

William then jokingly turns to his wife and asks, “How come you got that easy bit?”

In later scenes of the video, the Duke and Duchess reflected on their last trip to Ireland, which took place in early March, just days before the start of the global pandemic.

William shared, “We were so thrilled to be able to visit Ireland just over a year ago, a few short weeks before all our lives were turned upside down by the pandemic.”

Catherine added, “The warm welcome that we received everywhere was a testament to the friendship between our two countries and the strength of the relationship between the UK and Ireland.”

The Duke said that they recognised this St. Patrick's Day would be different, but he hoped people would still be able to celebrate safely.

William added, “We know that for Irish people all around the world today, it won't be the same as normal, but we hope you can celebrate safely in any case.”

Princess Takamadu also sent her best wishes for St. Patrick's Day, saying, “I recall with great affection the extraordinary and warm welcome that I received in Ireland during my last visit in 2017.

Until we meet again, please do stay safe.”

The video also included messages from Canada's Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, and New Zealand's PM, Jekynda Ardern, Norway's Premier, Erna Solberg, and Australia's Prime Minister, Scott Morrison.

Ireland's Taoiseach, Michael Martin, has already urged the public to enjoy a safe St. Patrick's Day and stressed it was very important that people avoid social gatherings amid the ongoing Covid-19 crisis.

Traditionally, at this time of year, the Duke, who is Colonel of the Irish Guards, and the Duchess of Cambridge attend the St. Patrick's Day parade with the 1st Battalion Irish Guards, where Prince William gives the salute and Catherine hands out shamrocks to the officers.

The Cambridges carried out their first official tour of Ireland in March 2020, visiting Dublin's Garden of Remembrance, the Guinness Storehouse, as well as enjoying a walk along a coastal path near Hoth in County Dublin.

The couple's appearance comes after the Queen yesterday extended her warm wishes to the Irish people ahead of St. Patrick's Day.

In a touching message, emphasising the importance of family and partnership, Her Majesty conveyed her best wishes to the Irish President, Michael D. Higgins, and the people of Ireland.

The Queen also made mention of her historic 2011 visit to Ireland, a trip she says she remembered fondly.
