Ellie Goulding Throws Shade at Harry and Meghan After Netflix Trailer Release

Singer Ellie Goulding has thrown major shade towards Prince Harry and Meghan Markle after the release of their Netflix trailer, showing her support for Prince William and Catherine, Princess of Wales.

Goulding had a sweet reunion with the royal couple at the Earthshot Prize Awards, where she performed her version of Elton John's Your Song, which was played at the couple's 2011 wedding reception.

The Waleses spoke with Goulding backstage, and images showed them excitedly chatting with her.

Taking to Twitter, Goulding said, “Despite distractions elsewhere, these are the people we should be paying attention to.

They demonstrate that the solutions already exist for a better future.

Thank you, at Earthshot Prize, for showcasing their amazing skill and ingenuity.”

Goulding's tweet seemed to be aimed at Harry and Meghan, who have been criticised for releasing a Netflix trailer on the eve of Prince William's Earthshot Prize ceremony.

Goulding continued, “Meghan's jealousy got in the way of good judgement.

She takes a private jet for a domestic flight the day before Earthshot, then drops a pointedly malicious documentary teaser on the day.

Talk about undermining environmentalism and making yourself look like an *ss in the process.

The focus should have been the winners and their initiatives.”

It is worth noting that Goulding was previously rumoured to have dated Prince Harry, although this was never confirmed publicly by either of them.

In an interview with Australian show The Project in 2016, Goulding was asked about the rumours.

The presenter asked, “Not having a baby with Prince Harry either, yeah?”

Goulding replied, “Please don't make me go red.

I'm bright red.

Why did I have a feeling that was going to come up?

Naughty people.”

Goulding and Harry first became friendly after the singer performed at the wedding of Harry's brother, Prince William, in 2011.

In 2016, a source close to Harry's circle told The Sun, “He's told friends how much he likes Ellie and she's clearly taken by him as well.”

The timing of the Netflix trailer release has been seen by some as provocative given the importance of the Earthshot Prize event, which saw a million pounds awarded to projects aimed at saving the planet.

Climate experts from Netflix have complained to the streaming giant after it aired the trailer on the eve of the awards ceremony.

Earthshot Prize chief executive Hannah Jones had described the ceremony as the Prince of Wales' World Cup moment.

Former UN climate chief, Cristina Figueres, who sits on Netflix's advisory group and chairs the Earthshot board, said she was disappointed with the timing of the trailer's release.

Ms Figueres, who played a key role in the 2015 Paris climate agreement, is saying Netflix has been a leader on producing valuable content to educate on environmental issues.

She said, “It's therefore quite disappointing that they aired negative messages on the very same day as the Earthshot Prize.”

Former UN political strategist Tom Rivett-Karnak, who sits on Netflix's advisory group and advises the Earthshot team, also complained to the streaming service's leadership.

He said, “The remarkable finalists and winners of the Earthshot Prize are changing the world.

They deserve all the attention and recognition they can get.

So the timing of this release from Netflix, a sustainability content leader, is profoundly disappointing.”
