Meghan Markle Accused of Lawbreaking After Using Royal Title in Political Plea

Royal fans are up in arms after used her Duchess of Sussex title in a letter addressed to US politicians on Wednesday, which is considered a breach of protocol as royals are not allowed to get involved in politics.

The letter was sent to Nancy Pelosi, the Speaker of the US House of Representatives, and Charles Schumer, the Majority Leader of the US Senate, campaigning for paid parental leave.

In the letter, Meghan revealed that she and felt overwhelmed after 's birth in June whilst balancing childcare with their working lives.

However, royal fans took to social media to express their disapproval of Meghan's use of her royal title, especially given the political nature of the letter.

One Twitter user questioned why Meghan was using her title in America to make a political point, stating that it was highly inappropriate for a British royal to campaign politically.

They added that they would have no issue with her letter if she wasn't trading on her title.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have continued to use their titles despite their exit from the royal family last year.

However, they are not permitted to use HRH titles, which they have not utilised since last year.

Despite this, the couple continues to use their royal public profiles to pursue causes which they deem worthy of support.

Meghan's letter, in partnership with campaign group Paid Leave For All, is the latest cause behind which the Sussexes have thrown their weight.

and announced in January 2020 that they would step down as senior members of the royal family and moved to Los Angeles to set up life as private citizens in the United States.

A royal author claims that does not trust them to use the titles properly, which is why they are not allowed to use HRH titles anymore.

Harry and Meghan are officially called the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, titles they can still use.

However, after stepping down as senior royals, asked them to drop the use of HRH or His/Her Royal Highness.

Another thing that Harry and Meghan have been barred from doing is using the brand Sussex Royal, which was the couple's social media name.

Meghan Markle made a rare and personal political statement on Wednesday as she wrote a letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer.

The extraordinary 1,030-word letter, given to supportive media to share, asked Pelosi and Schumer to consider her plea on behalf of her family, and Lily, and Harry.

It was written on the Sussex's new post-royal letterhead, which prominently uses their titles but not their official royal monograms.

In the letter, the Duchess depicted humble beginnings, saying that her family struggled when she was young.

Earlier this month, the royal couple announced that they had become Impact Partners with Ethic, a sustainable investment firm on Wall Street.

In a statement, the Duke and Duchess said, “We believe it's time for more people to have a seat at the table when decisions are made that impact everyone.

We want to rethink the nature of investing to help solve the global issues we all face.”

Prior to partnering with Ethic, Harry and Meghan embarked on a three-day tour of New York City, where they met U.S.

Ambassador to the U.N. Linda Thomas-Greenfield.

They are thought to have discussed racial justice, the coronavirus pandemic, and mental health issues.

Harry and Meghan also visited the offices of the World Health Organization, meeting Chelsea Clinton and assorted health experts.

Despite the backlash, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex continue to use their platform to promote causes they believe in.

While some royal fans may feel that Meghan's use of her royal title in a political plea was inappropriate, others may see it as a way to draw attention to important issues.
