Meghan Markle’s Anti-Hollywood Rant: Labels and Stereotypes

Meghan Markle, the former Suits actress and current wife of Prince Harry, has come out with a scathing attack on Hollywood, the industry she had longed to be a part of.

In her latest podcast, Markle slammed the business and its archetypes, claiming she had been labelled hysterical and crazy, perpetuating irrational stereotypes of women on television.

The bitterness in her tone was evident as she expressed her disappointment at not being embraced by Hollywood, even with her worldwide name recognition and a prince on her arm.

Markle started her podcast by asking her listeners to raise their hands if they have ever been called crazy, hysterical, nuts, insane, or completely irrational.

She then attacked two television shows, How I Met Your Mother and Scrubs, for perpetuating negative stereotypes of women.

Markle played a clip from How I Met Your Mother, where Neil Patrick Harris' character Barney says, “If she's this crazy, she has to be this hot.”

She followed it up with a quote from conservative philosopher Jordan Peterson, who said, “I don't think that men can control crazy women.”

Markle's next target was Sarah Chalk's character on Scrubs, who said, “I can't take it, Carla.

Cannot hide the crazy a minute longer.

I'm just this big mountain of cuckoo is about to erupt and spew molten crazy all over him, and he's going to die like this.”

Markle explained why such lines are harmful, saying that calling someone crazy or hysterical dismisses their experience and minimizes what they're feeling.

It can lead to gaslighting and ignoring real issues.

Markle's criticism did not stop there.

She called out Jordan Peterson, Austin Powers, Kill Bill, and How I Met Your Mother for perpetuating negative stereotypes.

Markle is essentially telling a large swath of Americans that their beloved movies and shows are racist or sexist.

However, she refuses to call out shows like Deal or No Deal, which objectifies women, or Suits, where her primary role was to be the overly s**ual and completely unprofessional vixen to a white man.

Markle's criticism of Hollywood has not gone down well with some people in the industry.

A studio head publicly advised her against attempting to instill a cancel culture in the entertainment industry.

Markle seems to be losing Hollywood's support, and some have even called for her to be cancelled.

One Reddit user slammed Markle's podcast, calling it shallow and manipulative.

The user said that Markle constantly references movies, TV, and books as the things we get every idea we have about ourselves.

She has no awareness that many do not.

The user also accused Markle of being manipulative and pretending to pay a compliment to the other person while putting words in their mouth.

Markle's attack on Hollywood may have been fueled by her disappointment at not being embraced by the industry.

However, her criticism of negative stereotypes and labels is valid and necessary.

Hollywood needs to take a long, hard look at itself and address the harmful stereotypes it perpetuates.

It is time for the industry to move beyond the tired tropes and embrace diversity and inclusivity.
