From the start of the match, George and his parents appeared in high spirits, with Prince George allowed to stay up late for the special occasion.

George looked smart in a blazer, shirt, and striped tie for the occasion, in a look that mirrored his father's own smart ensemble, after William and Catherine were reportedly split over whether he could wear an England shirt.

Meanwhile, Catherine looked elegant in a white blazer, white top, and red statement earrings, in a nod to the England colors.

During the 90-minute game, fans loved seeing the nearly eight-year-old Prince sing the national anthem alongside his parents, as well as his cheers from the Royal Box.

But the gesture that pulled at fans' heartstrings was when George hugged his mother Catherine and father William in a moment that captured the unbridled excitement of millions across the nation, before the night eventually ended in disappointment after England lost in penalties.

Following England's first goal, cameras panned to George, who jumped up and down as he celebrated between his parents.

The Prince quickly hugged his dad before turning to his mum to embrace her, while smiling from ear to ear.

Following a few seconds of celebration, George then composed himself and tucked in his shirt.

Things took a turn for the worst after Italy's equalizer midway through the second half forced extra time.

But after another goalless 30 minutes, penalties were required to separate the two teams.

Then England's fate was decided by Italian midfielder Federico Bonadeschi, who scored the team's winning goal.

At that point, George's reaction quickly turned to devastation.

Photographed in the stands of Wembley Stadium shortly after Italy's win, George looked downcast and lost in thought.

He was comforted by his father, , who placed two reassuring hands on his shoulders.

Standing to his left, Catherine looked low-spirited as she watched Italy's football team celebrate their win.

The oldest of the Cambridge family is known to be very passionate about soccer.

He reportedly begged his parents to bring him to the round of 16 games at Wembley Stadium last month to England's clash against Germany.

In 2019, Prince William revealed that his oldest son listened to the Three Lions football anthem constantly.

“I thought it would fade away, but it hasn't.

He still plays it every day.”

Before Sunday evening's final, Wimbledon champion Marion Bartoli revealed that Prince William wanted his son George to wear an England shirt to the match.

But Catherine was not so keen.

Ms. Bartoli told BBC Radio 5 Live, “Yesterday I had an afternoon tea with the Duchess and it was very much a discussion whether George will be allowed to wear the jersey tonight at Wimbledon or not.

William was for it, Kate not so keen.

So we'll see.”

Previously, George did not attend last week's football semi-final against Denmark but went to Wembley to watch England's clash against Germany with his parents, dressed in a suit, tie, and shirt.

Fans were touched by the sweet moment when Prince George hugged his parents after England's first goal, and their hearts broke when they saw him devastated at the end of the match.

It's clear that Prince George has inherited his parents' love of sports and will grow up just as affectionate.

His passion for soccer will undoubtedly continue, and fans will undoubtedly be looking forward to seeing him attend future games.

Although the nation may be heartbroken, we can take solace in the fact that we have a future king who is just as passionate about soccer as the rest of us.
