They prefer to watch Netflix and documentaries when the children are in bed, order take-out, play Scrabble, and enjoy a few glasses of wine.

For them, it's the simple things in life that count.

However, not every Valentine's Day has been sweet for the couple.

In 2012, less than a year after their wedding, Prince William was deployed for six weeks as part of his role as an RAF search and rescue pilot.

During his six weeks away, Catherine was forced to mark their first Valentine's Day as a royal couple alone.

On February 14th of that year, Catherine stepped out for solo engagements in Liverpool and spoke to a little boy named Jackson, who told her that he was sorry she couldn't be with her husband on Valentine's Day.

Catherine replied, “Do you know where he is, Jackson?

He's in the Falklands, but he sent me a card this morning.”

They usually spend the day together and frequent a favorite Italian restaurant right by their London property Kensington Palace.

Although it's hard for them to go anywhere undercover, William has been known to treat Catherine to a romantic meal at their favorite restaurant.

There's a sweet side to William, and he always ensures that there will be a card and a thoughtful present for Catherine, and perhaps a quiet dinner at home.

In conclusion, Prince William showed his love and appreciation for his wife, Catherine, by showering her with gifts and a heartfelt message on Valentine's Day.

The couple prefers to keep things simple and spend their time together at home, enjoying each other's company.

Although not every Valentine's Day has been sweet for the couple, they always find ways to make each other feel special and loved.
