Rory McIlroy’s Emotional Side Shown Ahead of Open Championship

Golf superstar Rory McIlroy has been in the news lately for his emotional side.

Ahead of this week's Open Championship, McIlroy was seen welling up during an interview with Sky Sports' Tim Barter as he discussed his hero Tiger Woods.

When asked if it was surreal to be a good friend of Woods and to be out at the Open Championship playing with him, McIlroy replied, “Yeah, sort of.

A little bit emotional in a way.”

But McIlroy is no stranger to hanging around with big names, and not only on the golf course.

Unknown to many, he became well acquainted with none other than the Duchess of Sussex, , before she married .

Trending:

In 2014, McIlroy nominated Markle for the ALS ice bucket challenge, which she accepted by throwing a bucket of water over her head.

At the time, there was speculation that they could be dating, but they were later spotted enjoying a meal in Dublin, confirming they were nothing more than friends.

Royal biographer Andrew Morton highlighted that there was nothing in the whispers, having previously worked alongside Meghan.

In 2018, McIlroy was asked if he had any advice for ahead of their marriage, to which he replied, “I obviously know Meghan a little bit, but then how do you answer a question like that because there are clearly cultural differences as there is between Erica and myself.”

McIlroy also has an American wife, Erica, whom he met in 2015.

The pair married two years later and welcomed their first child in September 2020.

In other news, Prince Harry and have been accused of using their wedding vows as fodder for increasing Netflix viewership.

Mail Plus' Charlotte Griffiths made this accusation in her chat with Palace Confidential.

She pointed out the serious ratings the couple stands to obtain from this decision and noted how desperate this decision appears.

Griffiths claimed that renewing vows is quite an American thing to do, and they probably have a lot of resentment around the wedding time because of all the dramas going on backstage.

She added, “Footage of them at the Wellchild Awards is all very well, but they've got to have that Kardashian thing, a set piece.”

When asked if there's a rule book for vow renewal, considering the couple has been married for less than 10 years, she said, “There's no rule because it's a nonsense thing to do in the first place.

But I would actually tune into their Netflix documentary if they renewed their vows; it would seriously have a lot of ratings.”

As for McIlroy, he's preparing for the Open Championship and is excited to be playing with his hero Tiger Woods.

He's grateful for the opportunity to be a part of something like this and to be as close as he is with his childhood hero.

He's also thrilled to be doing this with Lee Trevino, Georgia Hall, and all the great champions gathered there.

McIlroy is privileged and humble to be a part of it all, and he's looking forward to the champions' dinner tomorrow in the R&A clubhouse, where he'll be joined by Jack Nicklaus.

It's a pinch-yourself moment, and he's honored to be a part of it.
