Thousands file complaints about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s interview

Even though Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's interview with Oprah Winfrey aired almost a month ago, some royal fans are still reeling.

Following the contentious broadcast, the television regulator, Ofcom, announced that it registered 5,949 reports from audiences who were dissatisfied with the interview.

ITV broadcast false and deceptive claims against the press and the Royal family as evidence without providing any opportunity to react, according to the complaints.

At least one ITV columnist, as well as a half-dozen major tabloid and broadsheet journalists, are among those who complained, according to Press Gazette.

The controversial conversation aired on ITV in the United Kingdom, and it was also shown in several other countries around the globe.

The interview has sparked a lot of debate, with many celebrities weighing in with their opinions.

Despite screening on ITV a month ago, the highly-publicized special has continued to draw concerns to the British broadcasting regulator Ofcom.

“We are assessing the complaints against our broadcasting rules, but are yet to decide whether or not to investigate,” a spokeswoman for the regulator said.

Harry and Meghan discussed why they wanted to relocate to the United States and how tough life was in the royal family during their interview with Oprah, 67.

The couple's revelations in the interview stunned viewers, including claims of racism in the Royal Family and Meghan's battle with suicidal impulses during her first pregnancy. Harry also talked candidly regarding his strained friendship with his brother, Prince William, and his painful experience withdrawing from the ‘Firm.'

Meghan, 39, often discussed her mental health issues as well as her public spat with her dad, Thomas Markle.

Piers Morgan argued with his Good Morning Britain co-star Alex Beresford the day after the show premiered, causing him to storm off stage.

When Piers said he didn't believe Meghan's arguments, he and Alex got into a heated argument.

The ITV presenter's remarks drew a lot of criticism, prompting him to leave his job on GMB.

Following Piers' surprising comments, Meghan Markle allegedly lodged her own complaint with ITV, expressing her reservations regarding the possible effects of his remarks.

The program was characterized as a “two-hour PR puff” by one journalist who shared their concern with Press Gazette on the condition of anonymity.

“Who did you give a right of reply to and when? The programme was a PR puff for the couple. ITV should have fact-checked – did it re the ‘wedding' days before? Did it ask the Royal family, the Archbishop of Canterbury, the Markles, newspaper companies for a response? If so, when? If not, why?

Following the interview, several audiences backed the pair, but many were surprised at some of the arguments raised against the monarchy.
