Duchess of Cambridge Pays Tribute to Sarah Everard at Clapham Common Memorial

The Duchess of Cambridge has paid her respects to Sarah Everard, who was found murdered in woodlands in Ashford, Kent earlier this week.

The 33-year-old’s body was discovered after she went missing on March 3, 2021, while making her way home to Brixton from a friend’s house in Clapham Common.

The Duchess made an unannounced visit to the memorial site at Clapham Common, where crowds have gathered to pay tribute to Sarah.

Looking sombre and emotional, the Duchess spent time looking at flowers and messages of condolence at the bandstand on Clapham Common.

Witnesses said that Catherine looked upset during the visit on Saturday morning, as mourners wept and embraced.

She laid daffodils picked from her garden at Kensington Palace at the memorial site, according to Hello!

magazine.

A royal source told the publication that the Duchess wanted to pay her respects to Sarah and her family, adding that she remembers being a young woman walking around London at night before she got married.

It struck a chord with her, and she wanted to go and lay some flowers in person.

Sarah’s family paid tribute to her on Thursday, describing her as “bright and beautiful.”

They appealed for anyone with information to help detectives, saying that she was kind and thoughtful, caring and dependable.

She always put others first and had the most amazing sense of humour.

She was strong and principled and a shining example to us all.

We are very proud of her, and she brought so much joy to our lives.

After clips and pictures of the Duchess walking through the park were revealed on social media, many royal fans expressed how touched they were by her public tribute.

One commenter said, “That’s so lovely she done that, makes me quite emotional actually, RIP Sarah Everard.”

Another wrote, “Good on her,” while a third simply said, “Love her.”

The Duchess’s visit comes after a planned vigil at Clapham Common Bandstand, which was due to take place at 6 pm in honour of Sarah, was cancelled by Reclaim These Streets after discussions with the Met Police.

However, locals have still flocked to the park, which is located near where Sarah was last seen, in order to pay their respects.

The case has sparked widespread outrage and calls for action to address violence against women.

Metropolitan Police Officer Wayne Cousins, 48, is believed to be involved in Sarah’s death and was arrested on Tuesday.

He appeared in court on Saturday.
