Meghan Markle Compares Herself to Nelson Mandela in Controversial Interview

has once again made headlines, this time for her interview with The Cut magazine where she compared herself to Nelson Mandela.

The former Suits actress claimed that South Africans had danced in the street when she married , just like they did when Mandela was freed from prison.

However, her comments were met with ridicule and criticism from many, including Today host Karl Stefanovic.

Stefanovic, who has never been shy to criticise Meghan, scoffed incredulously at her claims while speaking to Nine's London correspondent Tracey Vo.

He remarked, “It's hard to see how that would sit with the royal family, especially the Mandela references.”

His co-host Alison Langdon added, “That one, I feel is tone deaf.”

Feigning compassion, Stefanovic later joked, “I think Meghan is probably a little misunderstood, don't you reckon?”

Langdon, whose distaste for the Sussexes is well documented, smirked, “Oh, you're changing your tune are you Karl?”

Even Piers Morgan has slammed Markle after her interview.

“Even by Markle's standards, this is a revoltingly, self-aggrandising, disingenuous and hypocritical load of royal bashing tosh,” he said.

“The Mandela anecdote alone had me gagging.

How dare she use her title to keep trashing the institution that gave it to her?

Shameless and shameful.”

Americans have also branded her latest comments as sickening, claiming that she is so out of touch with the real world.

One person said, “What has been doing since she left the royal family?

Every time she opens her mouth it's to bad mouth them all and lie.

It was so bad she's now comparing herself to Nelson Mandela.”

Furthermore, Meghan has been slammed for using her title to keep trashing the institution that gave it to her, after the couple decided to step down as working royals.

Archbishop Lucy Burge from Boston said, “If Meghan Markle hates the royal family so much, why is she still using the Duchess of Sussex title?

She's the fakest, most annoying person alive.”

Meghan was also criticised for claiming told her, “I lost my dad,” after he and had a public fallout over his decision to step away from the firm.

Royal experts previously claimed that Harry was back in touch with his father, but this relationship with his brother had not yet fully recovered after the couple's Oprah interview.

One person said, “Meghan Markle has infamously rejected and demonised her own dad, Tom.

In her last vanity PR interview she says Prince Harry told her, ‘I lost my dad too.'

That is huge.

It will cause enormous damage to , a king in waiting, and she knows it.

Nasty nasty nasty.”

Royal reporter Richard Palmer also hit out at her claims that the press were trying to take pictures of her while she dropped off at school.

Palmer said, “I'm afraid Meghan is a fantasist if she believes this would be a daily occurrence in the UK where the code has strict rules about treatment of children and education.”

Dan Wooten, columnist for the Mail Online added, “The lies in this interview are extraordinary.

Meghan claims there would be a royal press pen with 40 photographers each time she took to school.

Rubbish.

William and Kate drop their kids off to school most days, sight unseen.”

Meghan's comments have once again sparked controversy and divided opinions.

While some defend her right to speak out, others believe she is using her platform to attack the royal family and gain attention.

Only time will tell what impact her words will have on her relationship with the royals and the public.
