Dame Helen Mirren Calls Meghan a Devil Traitor in BAFTA Speech, Causing Outrage
The 2023 BAFTA Awards were held on Sunday evening at London's South Bank Centre's Royal Festival Hall.
The ceremony was attended by many famous faces from the television and film industry, including Dame Helen Mirren, who delivered a tribute to Queen Elizabeth II, who passed away in September 2022.
However, it was her comments about Meghan Markle that caused outrage.
Presenting the tribute, Helen took to the stage and began by saying, “BAFTA's relationship with Her Majesty was long-standing, and BAFTA would not be what it is today without her loyal support.”
She then went on to mention how the Queen supported over 50 cultural organizations and was honored with a BAFTA in recognition of her outstanding patronage of the film and television industries in 2013.
During the clip that was being played to support Helen's speech, a voice clip of Her Majesty was played where she said, “Through the creative genius of artists, whether they be writers, actors, filmmakers, dancers, or musicians, we can see both a range of our cultures and the elements of our shared humanity.”

Helen concluded her speech by saying, “Your Majesty, you are the nation's leading star.
On behalf of BAFTA, thank you for all you've done for our film and television industry.
Leaders of loving service are still rare, but in all cases, those who serve will be loved and remembered when those who cling to power and privilege have forgotten.
Truthful lips endure forever, but a lying tongue is, but for a moment.
Deceit is in the heart of those who devise evil, but those who promote peace have joy.”
However, it was Richard Grant's statement that followed that caused controversy.
He said, “Yes, thank you, Your Majesty, for everything.”
The statement was so poignant that the whole studio was silent for a moment, and then there was a round of enthusiastic applause.
Immediately after the content of the speech was spread on social networks, all the audiences agreed that the people who were objectively betrayal and lies mentioned were none other than Meghan and Harry.
The humiliation is about the damage to their egos, they've been trash-talking the royal family for two years.
This was the price Harry had to pay when he caused his grandfather and grandmother to die in anger.
From now on, they are the object of criticism and the center of all the jokes.
The Prince and Princess of Wales's appearance at the 2023 BAFTAs came as a surprise to royal fans, as they hadn't attended the event since 2020.
The couple arrived at the event to watch the ceremony take place before meeting category winners and EE Rising Star Award nominees.
William and Kate were visibly emotional as Helen Mirren delivered the tribute to the Queen.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge applauded the speech, looking emotional at kind words.
The guys should watch South Park right now.
I guarantee the Prince and Princess of Canada are shaken with anger as the camera pans to the audience.
