The Queen and Prince Philip Head to Sandringham for Christmas Festivities

Her Majesty the Queen was spotted heading to her country retreat with Prince Philip via Kingsland Station.

The couple caught a late morning service from Kings Cross Station, likely travelling first class.

The Queen was adorned in a vibrant purple overcoat and a matching headscarf, looking eager to get on with the festivities.

The soon-to-be newest member of the royal family, , is expected to attend.

Sandringham, the Queen's private estate in Norfolk, is a short journey from Kingsland.

Her Majesty will spend the Christmas period and New Year at her home with Philip.

The royal family traditionally join the monarch and her consort for part of the festive period and attend the Christmas Day service at a church on the Sandringham estate.

The British head of state arrived in the region shortly after Ms Markle and released two stunning official pictures to mark their engagement.

The couple are set to get married at a ceremony at St George's Chapel in Windsor Castle on May 19 next year.

Kensington Palace shared the photos on Twitter, stating “ and Ms. have chosen to release official photographs to mark their engagement.”

The intimate black and white portrait of the couple embracing has been published alongside an endearing but more formal picture of the couple sat together holding hands.

The photographs were taken by Alexa Lubo earlier this week at Frogmore House, Windsor.

Prince Philip was spotted carrying some light reading as he walked along the station.
