Queen considered stripping Duke and Duchess of Sussex titles off Harry and Meghan

Following their separation from the royal family, the Queen barred and from using their HRH labels, but it seems the pair were on the verge of losing their Sussex titles as well.

Following their decision to stand down as senior royals, Her Majesty and allegedly considered stripping the couple of their Duke and Duchess of Sussex titles.

According to the Evening Standard, “the Sussex title is one of the ancient royal dukedoms given to him ahead of his wedding to Meghan, along with other titles.”

“Removing it was seriously considered and discussed at the highest level.”

If Harry and Meghan's Duke and Duchess of Sussex titles were taken away, they would have to choose one of the prince's lesser titles, most certainly Earl and Countess of Dumbarton.

It didn't come to that in the end, when the Queen and Charles decided that stripping them of their titles would make them seem “petty.”

The option of stripping them of Sussex titles came back on the table after the bombshell Oprah interview aired.

According to reports, the Queen is “pretty cheesed off” over and 's interview with , and may strip them of their titles.

Senior courtiers are said to have conducted crisis talks at Buckingham Palace, after of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's infamous tell-all interview.

The couple's royal patronages were revoked after they decided to remain as private citizens in the United States while purchasing a £10.1 million home in Santa Barbara.

No final decision was reached during Palace talks last week, but it was agreed that Harry might lose his title or be forced to relinquish it.

Courtiers, on the other hand, are said to be keen for him to keep the right to be addressed as HRH, which he was given at birth.

If it is stripped away, Harry will lose his place as the sixth in line to the throne, which will necessitate legislation.

According to reports, the question is yet to be discussed with the monarch, who will have final approval.

“There were talks at the Palace looking at how you strip him of his dukedom,” a source told The Times.

“It has never been done before but there are people who think it is both feasible and desirable.”
