Woman solicits donations to pay off Harry and Meghan’s ‘£7m’ mortgage

A woman set up a GoFundMe page, urging strangers to donate money to help and pay off their £6.8 million mortgage on their California home.

Anastasia Hanson, 56, of California, told The Sun that she began the fundraiser campaign after Harry openly complained to about being financially cut off by Buckingham Palace and that they were saved by the inheritance from his mother, .

A few days after the Duke and Duchess' dramatic tell-all aired, the California local set up the ‘Harry and Meghan $5 Donation to Buy Home' on the website GoFundMe.

Hanson, who lives about 25 minutes from the princely couple's palatial estate in swanky Montecito, said, “When they came to the USA, they were without jobs and with limited funds.”

“They've stated that they've had a very rough time, so this fundraiser is a way to give help, compassion, and love by paying their home loan in full.”

She hoped to raise $10 million (£7.1 million) from people, but her campaign page was taken down after only raising almost nothing.

“My family literally cut me off financially, and I had to afford security for us,” Harry said in the bombshell TV interview, defending their inking of a slew of uber-lucrative media deals after leaving royal life.

Hanson's online fundraising campaign to support the royals taken down with just three contributions, according to The Sun.

She wrote in the details section that the Sussexes had put down $6 million on their expansive, nine-bedroom Montecito house before moving in in August 2020, and that they will need a further $13 million to pay off the mortgage.

“I am Anastasia Hanson of Ventura, California and I am raising funds to pay off the mortgage for the Montecito, California home of Harry and Meghan,” the page continued.

“Were 2 million supporters to donate just $5 each, the Goal is met and the loan can be paid off. After their interview, I was moved with compassion to help get their home paid off. As they are now financially independent, this will help and be a loving gift .”

She also stated that the fundraising was “legal” and “legitimate,” and that the funds would be sent directly to the Sussexes' bank.

Hanson contributed $5, while “A Supporter” donated $100 and “Anonymous” gave $5 to the fund.

Her efforts, though, were short-lived, as the GoFundMe page was removed from the platform a few days later after only receiving $140 in donations.

Since the worth of their Los Angeles-area home, which has nine bedrooms and 16 bathrooms, almost tripled in months, the couple's total personal wealth is said to be up to £100 million.

Despite getting multimillion-pound agreements with Netflix and Spotify and other sources of income, including Harry's inheritances from his mother and great-grandmother the Queen Mother, Anastasia believed the Sussexes needed financial assistance.

She admitted that she was aware of the Sussexes' Netflix and Spotify offers.

“I personally relate to mental health, racial equality, diversity, and inclusivity.

“They both support these issues as well. Together, they can help bring healing and restoration to the whole world.”

Princess Diana, the Prince's late mum, is said to have left him a fortune of about $US13 million.

The couple both has a reported $US100 million production contract with Netflix and are said to earn $US1 million per speech.
