Quentin Tarantino Explains Foot ‘Fetish’ In His Films
Quentin Tarantino has revealed why he likes incorporating feet in his movies.
From Kill Bill to Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, the filmmaker has employed views of female cast members’ feet, to the point where Brad Pitt sarcastically complimented the feet of his co-stars Margot Robbie and Margaret Qualley during an Oscars acceptance speech for his part in the latter.
The filmmaker is fully aware that the public is enamored with the feet on exhibit in his films, but he is unconcerned.
In an interview with GQ magazine, he stated, “There’s a lot of feet in a lot of good directors’ movies. Like, before me, the person foot fetishism was defined by was Luis Buñuel, another film director. And Hitchcock was accused of it and Sofia Coppola has been accused of it.”
He summarised the cliche as “just good direction,” adding, “I don’t take it seriously”.
Since the summer, Tarantino has been making the rounds in promotion of his debut novel, an adaptation of “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.” Tarantino’s objective, according to Christian Blauvelt of IndieWire, “is to make people fall in love with swaths of pop culture that are continually undersung, and when he does express that love in this book, it’s contagious. His prose shimmers. We all know that not everything that glitters in Hollywood is gold. But like the soft, comforting light that emanates from your TV, Hollywood and its stories, even when they’re upsetting, sure can glow.”

Recently, Tarantino revealed facts about his tumultuous connection with his mother. On the podcast The Moment, the filmmaker discussed how his mother, Connie Zastoupil, mocked his writing when he was a child.
When his academic performance began to deteriorate, the filmmaker said that his mother made fun of his script writing. “My mom was bitching at me about [writing screenplays]… and then in the middle of her little tirade, she said, ‘Oh, and by the way, this little writing career’ – with the finger quotes and everything – ‘this little writing career’ that you’re doing? That shit is fucking over,’” Tarantino recalled.
Tarantino has yet to indicate how he wants to follow up “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” with his next film. The filmmaker has only stated that he intends to retire from filmmaking after his tenth film, which will be his next.
