The 69-year-old royal was snap-chuckling happily as he waved to crowds.

It is not known whether the Duchess of Cornwall was present.

Prince Edward, 54, was behind the wheel of the third car, a 4X4 with a metallic emerald green finish.

He looked focused as he drove his wife Sophie, Countess of Wessex, 53, and 14-year-old daughter Lady Louise Windsor back to the estate – their son James, Viscount Severin X, did not appear to have joined them.

In the fourth car travelled Princess Anne, who drew inspiration from her mother's love of bright colours and donned a striking purple coat and hat.

Her husband, Vice-Admiral Sir Timothy Lawrence, sat in the back seat alongside her daughter-in-law Autumn Phillips, 40, who enjoys a good relationship with the Queen.

The Royal Family's summer holiday promises to be eventful, with more activities and sightings expected in the coming weeks.
