Prince Harry Criticizes First Amendment in Bombshell Interview
Prince Harry has sparked controversy after appearing to criticize the First Amendment, which guarantees freedom of speech in the United States.
During an interview with Dax Shepard and Monica Padman on the Armchair Expert podcast, the Duke of Sussex said, “I've got so much I want to say about the First Amendment as I sort of understand it, but it is bonkers.”
His comments have been met with backlash from a number of prominent figures, including Andrew Neal, Nigel Farage, Ted Cruz, and Jack Posobiec.
Andrew Neal, a former BBC veteran, mocked the Duke of Sussex by signing off his comments on Twitter as “Harry Windsor Markle, Montecito, ca.”
Nigel Farage tweeted, “For Prince Harry to condemn the USA's First Amendment shows he has lost the plot.
And he will not be wanted on either side of the pond.”
Trending:
Ted Cruz, a senator for Texas and ally of the Republican Party under Donald Trump, tweeted, “Nice that he can say that.”
Jack Posobiec, a hard-right activist, added, “Prince Harry is attacking America's First Amendment.
Tells you everything you need to know.”
The First Amendment covers a number of basic freedoms in the U.S., including freedom of religion, speech, the press, the right to assemble, and the right to petition the government for a redress of grievances.
Prince Harry's comments have been seen by some as an attack on these fundamental rights.
This is not the first time that Prince Harry has courted controversy with his public statements.
In March, he and his wife Meghan Markle made several explosive claims during an interview with Oprah Winfrey.
Meghan claimed that there were conversations and concerns about Archie's skin color before he was born.
The interview caused a stir in both the UK and the US, with many criticizing the couple for airing their grievances in public.
Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams has also criticized Prince Harry's recent comments, saying that he seems to be increasingly trapped.
Fitzwilliams added that it is “sadly obvious” that Meghan makes up Harry's mind now.
He told The Sun Online, “It is easy to conclude that he no longer makes his own mind up.
It seems to be made up for him.”
