Princess Eugenie Visits Prince Harry In The US Amid Mounting Tensions With The Royal Family

Princess Eugenie, the granddaughter of Queen Elizabeth, made a surprise visit to the US to meet with her cousin, Prince Harry.

This is the first time that a member of the royal family has visited Harry and his wife Meghan Markle in California since they stepped down as senior royal members two years ago.

The two were seen together at the Super Bowl in Los Angeles on Sunday, without their partners.

The meeting comes amid mounting tensions between Harry and the rest of the royal family, as well as concerns over his upcoming biography.

Many have speculated about what was discussed during the hours that Eugenie and Harry spent together at the game, as well as before and after.

According to reports, Eugenie also had the opportunity to meet Harry and Meghan's daughter, Lilibet Diana, who was born last June and has not yet visited Harry's hometown.

The trip has raised hopes among royal watchers that Princess Eugenie could help Harry bridge the rift with the royal family.

Royal author Phil Dampier believes that Eugenie and Harry's close relationship from childhood could make her an ideal intermediary between Harry and the royal family.

He stated, “If there's going to be an emissary or an intermediary between Harry and the royal family back home, she could well fit the bill.”

Royal commentator Brian Hoey also believes that Eugenie could be helpful in healing the relationship between the Sussexes and the royal family.

He believes it likely that key senior royals were informed beforehand by Eugenie about her stateside trip.

Prince Harry and Princess Eugenie have had a close bond since childhood, bonding over a shared love of the London party scene.

They were often in each other's company when their mothers, Princess Diana and Sarah Ferguson, were also close friends.

In the 1990s, they went on family skiing holidays alongside their parents and siblings, William and Beatrice.

While Harry and Eugenie were on different paths in the royal world, with Eugenie destined to make a living and Harry to serve the public as a working royal, it seems that their roles have since changed.

In the Sussexes' unofficial biography, Finding Freedom, Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand wrote, “Out of all the Queen's grandchildren, Harry and Eugenie have one of the most natural connections.”

Eugenie once had a part to play in Harry's love life after she introduced him to her friend, Ceresa de Bonas.

While the romance did not work out, it showed that the pair were moving in similar circles.

The princess is also thought to have been integral in welcoming Meghan into the royal family.

Harry and Meghan gave their blessing for Eugenie and her husband Jack Brooksbank to use their Frogmore cottage at Windsor after they moved out.

Eugenie also signed up to Meghan's 40×40 mentoring project, sending messages of support on social media.

The Duke and Duchess even waited until attending Eugenie's 2018 wedding to reveal that they were expecting their first baby, Archie.

And while Eugenie has remained a loyal asset to the royal family, she has also stood firm with Harry.

During his royal tour in Africa in 2019, Harry spoke for the first time about his relationship with his brother, Prince William, stating that they were on different paths.

He repeated this during the Sussexes' interview with Oprah Winfrey in early 2021, almost one year after they had officially stepped down as senior royals.

During the same interview, Harry also spoke of a trying relationship with his father, Prince Charles.

It remains to be seen how much Harry will reveal in his upcoming memoir about the rift he has experienced with his family.

Despite the mounting tensions, both Meghan and Harry have made it clear that their relationship with the Queen remains excellent.

However, with the Queen's upcoming Platinum Jubilee celebrations and Harry's memoir, it seems that royal tensions have entered a new phase.
